Jenna,
My 11-year-old son, Tyler, will be having surgery by Dr. Steinberg on June 18th. You didn't say where you were having your surgery. I can give you my son's surgery schedule, but you will also want to check with your surgeon to find out how their schedule works. Tyler will go to the hospital for preliminary testing on the 16th and 17th. He will then be admitted on the 18th for his first surgery. Tyler will spend 24 hours in the ICU then 3 days in a regular hospital room. The testing will show if they need to do the second surgery on the 25th (which is usally the case) so, Tyler will then be readmitted for the second surgery and have the same stay in the hospital for it. Not everyone needs surgery on both sides so quickly. DJ, he started this site, had his a year apart.

If my understanding is correct the surgery can take from 3 to 6 hours per-side.

It seems that children bounce back really quickly, by what I've read on here. DJ could give you more insight on the adult recovery.
