May 6th was chosen to be World Moyamoya Day because the condition was first identified in Japan in the 1950's. It was named in the 1960's. The month of May represents the 5 in 1950's, and the 6th day represents the 6 in 1960's. May 6th is impartial to any particular patient, doctor, hospital, or date. It's a date we can all recognize!
On the front of the shirt, a blue awareness ribbon with an image of a brain along with the traditional depiction of an arterial network is displayed. On the back, an inspirational quote from Marie, a Moyamoya patient: "Moyamoya... you steal my blood, but you won't steal my spirit!" See the pictures to the left for more information.
