Title: Different Types of Surgeries
Post by Michelle on Dec 10th, 2003 at 9:18am
Cally had both sides of the brain done. Her scars are above her ears. They look like an upside down horse shoe. Each surgery required about 40 stitches. Dr. Dauser used a scalp artery to replace the old one. He also invented a procedure where he cuts a square piece of the brain dura and lays it directly on the brain. He said that this makes the blood vessels multiply tremendously. He was writing an article (and using pictures of Cally's brain. She was very excited!) about this procedure and giving lectures to try to get other Drs. to use it. Sincerely, Michelle ;)

Michelle - that's cool!  Will you be able to get a copy of the article?  I would love to read it.  My surgery with Dr. Scott in Boston is coming up at the end of the month.  I'm having the EDAS procedure - where they also take a scalp artery and stitch it to my brain.  Anyhow, I would be very interested to read the article that Cally's doc is writing if you can get it.  Thanks! - Shari
