Title: ANGIOS
Post by Sara on May 21st, 2004 at 2:19pm
I have a question that has probably been answered on here before:

For follow-up post op, I know most of you go about once a year for MRI and MRA, right?

Do you ever have angiograms done? I am curious if it would be benefical?

HELP!

All I've had are MRA/MRI and a SPECT Scan since surgery. They didn't have spect scans (I don't think) when I was dx, but I had one done about 4 years ago.

Well, any input on tests would be appreciated!

Take Care, and thank you in advance!

Sara :)

Mandy's one year check up with Steinberg she had an angio, spec scan, and an MRA I believe. They said she didn't need to return unless she had symptoms. She does see her neurologist regularly tho.

Hi Sara!

Louise never had a follow up angio. She did have a follow up MR one year post surgery and her doctor said it looked so good that he didnīt want to put her through an angio if not needed. I guess if she starts having symtoms and the MR doesnīt  look perfect they will give her an angio, or thats what I will demand. From this board I understand it looks very different from patient to patient and I think also from doctor to doctor.
Please let me know if you find out there is a "standard proceedure" about follow up tests because I am as confused as you on this!

Sara - When I go back for my 1 year check up with Dr. Scott they will do another angiogram (I've had one for dx).  He said he will determine what test I need to do on a yearly basis, if any, after this 2nd angio.

Annica,
I think your right it depends on the Dr. I would imagine it might depend on the severity of the MM also in each individual patient and who knows maybe even the damage if any, done before surgery by strokes, maybe that has a bearing on it. It would be interesting to know.

don't know yet because my  [smiley=huh.gif]2nd EDAS surgery is June 4th....I think I remember DR. Connolly mentioning a follow up visit once a year and I think it is for MRI only...will check with him on June 4th to be sure and let you know......Pat

Natasha had an angio one year after surgery, in addition to the MRI/MRA's etc, and since then she only does an MRI/MRA at the annual check-up. Her surgeon is Dr.Scott.

Cheers
