Title: after surgery Post by hillary on Jun 4th, 2004 at 12:19am
ok, i have a few questions maybe you all can help with
1. Holly has more swelling on the side of her face from the second side of the surgery then the first. It also seems to be getting worse, is this normal? 2. Also, I know that headaches are to be expected, but she has had a few headaches that are like a 6 or 7 on the "pain scale". Is that normal? 3. She also had a tingling attack this evening when she got mad at me. The tingling attacks are what brought this to our attention in the first place. Does anyone else have symptoms after surgery? How long do they take to stop? Do they ever stop? I'm just worried that the second side didn't go as well as what we thought, or maybe there are some problems that we aren't aware of. Does anyone have any advice? oh and the last thing, how about dehydration, is there a need for more fluids after surgery then there was before? Does anyone experience any of these things? Hillary |

Hillary -
Have you called or e-mailed Dr. Steinberg to ask him these questions? That's what I would do. The only question I can really answer through my own experience is the dehydration question. When I left the hospital they said at least 4oz of liquids (jucie, water, whatever you want) every hour. That's not really a lot. So now I keep a stock of bottled water so I can take it a bottle with me where ever I go. I would drink more when the weather is hotter. -Shari |

Shari,
I have sent him the same list of questions last night, hoping to hear back this morning from him. He knows that her head is pretty swollen, but it seems to be getting bigger, we were at his office on Wed to get the stitches out, but he decided to wait another week because of the swelling.. thanks for your help. Hi Hillary!
My daughters surgery was more than 1 year ago and was done on both sides under the same anesthesia and she was 6 years of age at the time. I recognize all the symtoms you describe, the swelling was very bad for 3-4 days and worse on one side, the tingling and numbness got worse than before the surgery for 2-3 weeks and she also had bad headaches for a few weeks but they faded away and today itīs very rare for her to have headaches and they donīt last long. About the dehadration; we are still very careful about telling her to drink regularly, especially when the weather is hot. After the surgery she was hydrated by "drip" and when they took it away too early she was really feeling bad and almost unable to get in contact with so they had to put her back on it so I beleive that hydration is really important, maybe for the rest of her life. So I donīt think you need to worry but of course it would be better to ask her doctors. Take care and give Holly mine and Louises best wishes. Annica |

Hi Hillary,
I am (however much that I can be) glad to hear the other experienced message board members advice and stories. I hope that things are well as I am sure they will be. Please tell Holly when she is getting better that many of us are rooting for her and I will see her again, soon. warm thoughts, connie |

thank you very much, i haven't seen much of you around lately, but wondered how you were doing. would love to see you again before we leave for texas....maybe we can work something out, but she is doing much better now, gets her stitches out tomorrow, and back to school as soon as we get the release from the Drs. office, she can't wait, she has missed school so much.
