Title: 2nd Surgery Today
Post by gotchlorine on Jun 9th, 2004 at 1:39pm
My daughter Tara is 17 and she is having her second surgery today (as I type) for Moya Moya.  She had her first surgery last Wednesday 6/2 and basically everything went well.  As with many, Dr. Steinberg is her doctor and we are at Stanford.  Unlike everyone else, we live pretty close to Stanford in San Jose.

We have been looking at all of the messages since she was diagnosed 3 weeks ago and have found tremendous hope in all of them.

Tara's first surgery was scheduled during the middle of her finals - school amazingly simply waived finals for her.  Her grades were simply pegged at what she had going in.

Tara is now a senior (as of last week) at Valley Christian HS in San Jose.  She is on the swim team and also on the waterpolo team.  Dr. Steinberg has told her she can go back to both - her mother and I are a little skeptical about waterpolo, but we'll allow it if he confirms its ok.

Tara was fortunate to make it to her prom and to an uncle's wedding the two weekends before surgery.  I have surgery and (more importantly) prom pictures that I will post if she agrees.

I will be passing off the login, password, etc., to her once she is home.

Although I'm sure this has been asked over and over, please pray for Tara and for God to guide Dr. Steinberg.

I'm so glad Tara's first surgery went so well, and yes indeed we will continue praying for her!! You have our prayers and the best surgeon in the world on your side.  I'm sure she will do wonderful and be back doing the things she loves in no time.

Please give Tara a big hug for us and please keep us posted. [smiley=hug.gif]

Awww, that’s wonderful to hear she is doing well from her first one, i bet she will do great through this one as well, i know its hard waiting for him to come out and talk to you, it seems like forever and a day.

I’m really happy that she will be able to get into her sports and things again, glad that she got to go to her prom and the wedding…gave me the chills to think of how well she is doing, and brings back just a couple weeks ago my daughter’s surgeries were there with Dr. Steinberg.

Please tell your daughter that we are thinking of her, and praying for her.

p.s.  maybe when holly and i go back to Stanford at the end of this month, maybe we could meet up sometime during that day, would love to be able to say hi in person

take care
Hillary

Hi Campbell, you can be assured Tara is in our prayers!
It seems so weird to go from being normal to hey something is seriously wrong with you.  Even more so that she is at a critical time in her life- high school!  Please let me know how the second surgery went and what to expect.  My first surgery will happen on 6/30 and the second on 7/7.  I am not looking forward to it.  I must say that the Stanford staff has kept me laughing and in good spirits throughout all correspondence.  God Bless and hope to hear from you soon.   :)

I will keep Tara in my thoughts in the days and weeks to come!

Justa vote of confidence regarding her playing sports. I played soccer (among volleyball, basketball, etc..) before and after being diagnosed. I actually wore a helmet in a couple of games (embarrasing looking back :)). My doc said it was sorta my cast. But truly, she will be fine, and water polo will be no problem!!

I hope everything goes as well as the first one!!!

Campbell~
So glad the surgeries went well.
Hope Sara is up and about soon.
I just wrote a get well wish on the other posting but want to emphasize the 'YAHOOOOOOO surgery was successful' and back to sports and life!

My husband, Jack lived in San Jose for years (he grew up in the East Bay) and I grew up in Palo Alto. Nothing like going home for surgery! We live in northern Calif. now. The point is, we're all on the west coast and are here for your more local support.
I sense too that Jack (as my best supporter and husband) spends more time on the board than I do. I think all of us (mm patients and supporters) welcome the chance to be togather and share.

Again, Delighted that Tara is doing well.

Take care,
LA (Linda)
