Yep, I have plenty of stories I could tell about my crew. They keep us laughing morning til night. I have a beagle named Pudgi, a West highland terrier named Sadie, and a old, long haired gray domestic cat, named Tigger that we took in last year who was abandoned. They fill our hearts with such joy and unconditional love like no one else can. I adore them!!

You know who could probably tell us some good stories?? LisaH. She owns her own dog training and pet sitting business. I bet she could tell us a few stories to make us pee our pants. [smiley=crackup.gif]

C'mon Lisa, got any good ones you wanna share?  and Deej...don't I remember hearing that you have an old fat cat?

Speeking of fat cats, Rebel weighs 18 pounds! And Tigger is my husbands nickname because he walks on the balls of his feet and bounces. He's so funny. Kiyara is half great dane/old english mastif, Anya is a rottwieller, Lanan is a beagle mix, and Blonda is a 16yr old chihuahua. Blonda is satans spon [smiley=sgrin.gif], I swear, she's so mean. It's like she looks at you all sweet and stuff so you'll come closer so she can bite you ::). I am also looking for a home for my father-in-laws beagle mix, she so sweet!        Nikki

I used to have two adorable, awesome beagles, but my dumbass ex-husband has them now.  I have Russian Tortoise named Shelby, and I will be pet-sitting an Australian Bearded Dragon for the summer.

And I have a baby human, but that doesn't count.  He's cuter than the reptiles.

I love basset hound. They are so cute with their big droopy eyes, long ears , and that bark is just adorable. My sister has a bearded dragon. He's really pretty.

Hi!

Our family has a cat who´s name I can´t even write on this board because we have such funny letters in this language with dots and rings and stuff but today is her first birthday and Louise gave her lots of presents. Spent all of her allowances on that cat!! And they both love each other so much. We got a cat the same day that Louise got out of the hospital after her surgeries (her name was Tindra=Sparkle) but she got killed by a mean car about one year ago so this is our second cat in a short time. And of course Louise keeps all kinds of disgusting bugs as pets but I make her keep them in the garden!

I don't have pets, I have furry family members.  My oldest "son" is a 19 year old Appaloosa Gelding who used to be a show horse.  He thinks he rules the roost.  My youngest "son"  is a 13 month old Quarter Horse.  He laid in his momma wrong and was born with twisted legs and a club foot.  He was bred for racing and since he cannot race, he was going to be put down.  The joke is on the people who gave him to us.  He has a double blood line back to a hall of fame stud and I have people wanting pay around $1000 to breed their mares to him.  He is really my daughter's horse.  Because she has spina bifida her legs aren't straight either.  They are quite a pair.  I think he will be the smallest horse on the planet.  Oh, names.  The oldest is Oreo and the youngest is Gus.  That is short for Octavian Agustus.  We are also the proud parents of a young parakeet, Pooka.  That is our furry family.

Post by nikki on Jun 16th, 2004 at 2:35am
That is a very good point about calling them family. I've just gotten so used to calling them pets because when I call them my kids people freak out about me having 5 of them, then when I tell them they are dogs and cats they look at me like I'm stupid and say"Oh, I thought you meant REAL kids." and it annoys me  [smiley=hewey.gif], so I just started calling them "pets agian to avoid the hassel. All of my babies are so goofy, Kiyara is afraid of storms, so she gets this bright idea that if she gets out of the fence the storm can't get her. So instead of getting in her big, nice doghouse, she busts under the fence and runs around the yard like a lunatic in the pouring rain [smiley=rolleyes2.gif] What her logic is, I have no idea!!

Arianna's mom

I have always thought that horses are beautiful animals.  I am looking into a program for my sister Patty (mm'er ) who is in a wheelchair.  Her doctors believed in a wait and see program.  OH, that is another story.  Back to horses.  The program is callled O.A.T.S.  Which stands for Offering Alternative Therapy with Smiles, Inc.  They offer theraputic  horseback riding.  They have a waiting list .  OATS believe anything's possible in the dreamland of horses.

I think that is a great idea Janice!! It has been proven that companion animals help tremendously with rehab. I watch a special once on theroputic horses, and it was amazing the progress some of the kids made with the horses.  [smiley=JAW_DROP.gif] Keep us posted on gettin your sis in the program.               Nikki

I agree it is a wonderful idea!  My daughter's specialist are thrilled she is learning to ride.  It will help her with her balance and strenghten her leg muscles.  It also helps that she feels she can talk to little Gus and tell him anything and since he has a crooked leg, he seems to understand.  Horses are amazing creatures.  Oreo seems to know when I am having a hard Arianna day and just hugs on me and nuzzles until I feel better.  They are compassionate and very smart.  I hope you both get some enjoyment out of this.

My fiance and I had to put his 14 year old female black lab down (Maggie Mae) about 6 months ago. It was so hard to do. After that we missed having a lab so much, We adopted Ace, our new 14 month old male black lab. He had 2 previous homes. He is stubborn, for sure, but so sweet. He is very smart and learning the rules quick. I love black labs. It is funny, I never would have a "big" dog if it wasn't for my honey!!!

so, we have a Cavalier King Charles spaniel named Monty  (he is from Ireland---I call him Montgomery, Monty Python, Montego Bay, all different names----my sister Diane Main can tell you all about how I give animals and people different names.......)(, two parakeets named Tiki and Lilo, one newt named Dotty (the other newt named Spotty died 3 months ago) a bunch of tropical fish..........
the week before I had my strokes(April 2003) in the Domenican Republic, we had to put our beautiful Chocolate Lab (oversized at 120 lbs), Herschel, to sleep---his back legs were so bad and he was unable to control his bowels....my husband kept putting Depends on him.............it broke my heart......Monty will be 1 years old on July 11th.....he is just 25 lbs and so cuddly.......a real doll....., I mean, dog..........I love animals.....PatM [smiley=inlove.gif]

Well as of last night my furry family grew by one. I brought my moms cat(she used to be my cat till momma stole her when I moved out :)) to stay with me for a while, while she is in the hospital. Rebel was NOT happy about that at all!! He hissed and pouted all night and simply refused to sit in my lap or even look at me. He's so rotten! [smiley=rolleyes2.gif] He seems to be better today though.

Nikki---with all that you are going through with Momma, you don't need a "rotten cat"...just kidding..Love PatM ;)

Post by nikki on Jun 20th, 2004 at 1:14am
Haha. He IS very rotten, but he's a big sweetheart, too. [smiley=inlove.gif] He has to stay in the laundry room at night so he got locked up with Jade too the past the pats three nights, so needless to say, they had to get reaquainted without much choice in the matter ;;D. You guys wouldn't happen to know anyone who would want a female beagle mix do you? She is my father-in-laws dog, and when we got the house, we also got her but we just can't afford or have room for another dog. She is so very sweet and really good with kids. If yall know of anyone let me know. I want her to have the best home because she deserves it. Did I mention she loves kids? [smiley=hug.gif]

not to be presumptous, but my sister, DIANE MAIN, loves beagles-----even mixed beagles.......how old is the dog?  How can we get him to California if she agrees to take him? Maybe I can take a road trip........  Of course, she has to asked her dear husband, my dearest brother-in-law in the world, (Am I buttering you up sufficiently, Alex???) if it is ok to take the dog? Why don't you pm my sister and check it out?????PatM

Her name is Niko and she is three yrs old. she is black with white around her mouthe, a little white tip on her tail, tan eyebrows, a tan stripe just under her elbows and from there down her legs are white. She is absolutely adoreable and she has the sweetest little face you've ever seen. Me and my husband found her half dead lying in front of a gas station when she was only about 12 weeks old, so we picked her up and nursed her back to health and gave her to his dad. I will IM Dian and see what she says. I really hope it's yes!!!!!!!

Pat, you forget . . . we rent, and aren't supposed to have any pets.  The landlord doesn't seem to mind Shelby much, since she is mostly outdoors, and when she's indoors, she's confined to a tank.  Same with Gomer, the visitor.  But a dog is another story.

We weren't even supposed to have kids!

Diane

WHAT!!!!!! NOT supposed to have kids!!!!!! The Landlord can't do that-------I don't think the Landlord/Tenant law in California is so different from NJ...Tenants have more rights than Landlords.....if they kick Cameron Stuart out of your house....send him here.....He is so cute---you should post his picture on the picture page.....do the one where he is signing Daddy's Father's Day card.......so, I guess you are not taking Nikki's dog..........Love you. P :-* ;)

Well, she knew we were pregnant, but she's really hands-off and likes us a lot.  But the reason she rented to us was because we were a couple, not a family.

Anyway, this is getting off the pets topic.

Hey Diane and Pat! just wanted to let yall know that my father-in-laws beagle Nico will be going to a beagle rescue and will be transported to New Jersey to find a home! She will be kept in a foster home until she is placed with a new family. She is so sweet. I hope she doesn't get too scared in all that moving around and not knowing anyone [smiley=youknow.gif]          Nikki

Not too happy with my babies today.  All were acting up and low and behold if Gus didn't bite me.  I am happy he is a little horse and can be controlled fairly easily, but I am very happy that he has a small mouth.  Maybe getting another one within the next few months.  We will have to see.

We have a cat the boys named "Jacatto".  Got the name off some video they watched!  But I call her Ki-ki.  She's a med-hair tortoise shell calico with lots of red (I always wanted a red-headed baby!)  Kyle is really a dog kid, but his younger brother is very afraid of them and I know nothing about them, so we got a cat.  Kyle and I have the best fun making up what we think she's thinking!  We taught her to sit before we put her food down.  She leaves us presents on the porch occassionally, usuallly a field mouse or (hope we don't get arrested for this) sometimes a mockingbird!  They really are very mean to her.  She never eats them.
Pets (animals in general) really are quite theraputic.  My mom isn't able to bend down and we knew she couldn't care for a real pet, so after my Dad died, the boys and I got her one of those "Fur Real"  cats!  She has so much fun with it!  She lives in a retirement village now and the other seniors get a real kick out of it!
Janice, I'm anxious to hear how the horse riding works, too!  I've heard some wonderful stories and hope Patti's is a good experience, too!

Hi Sue. I'm really more of a dog person, although I love my feline babies. Dogs are great, where a cat can take or leave you half the time, a dog always wants to be with you and always wants to be petted. They are wonderful. [smiley=twocents.gif]

Sue,

Thanks for inquiring about the horse back riding.  That is on the back burner for a while.  Patty is getting a pump installed, family reunion, going up north to cottage, etc.  But will try to fit in soon.

In regards to pets.

Pat M - Patty had a Cavalier King  Charles.

Our son moved back home 2 years ago with a Black Lab pup- Max.  This past March Matt moved out again with Max.  I am not sure who I miss more Max or Matt. well I really do know who I miss more but do not want to say!!!

I am sure that you can guess.

Janice.

There's an excellent beagle rescue in New Jersey.  Is that who you're working with?  I think the woman's name is Linda.  My ex-in-laws got their dog from her.

I am actually working with Canine Angels out of GA, and they are transporting her to New Jersey to find a home up there. I'm not sure if that is canine angels too, or a different one, but I talked with the lady on the phone and she seemed very nice and sincere. I sure will miss her, but it's better for her. She's so sweet! [smiley=heart.gif] I know they will take very good care of her and she will find a wonderful family.

Judy,

Better get her to the vet.  Sounds like you are going to be a grandma of some pups!!  ;)  I have a dog (Lucas) that climbs his kennel to get out and "mate".  Bad dog.  He's given us three litters of mutts in the neighborhood.  LOL!!  Going to get him fixed as soon as I can afford another doctor bill.  lol  Good luck with the litter.  Hope they are born healthy.

Shorty hasnt gotten huge but she still got the same symptoms and im not sure if shes pregnant yet. Thanks for the advise im not sure cause my vet said i have to pay for a sonogram i really dont have the money so i cant take her. They told me give her puppy chow and see what happens in 63 days im not sure what to do know
and if she is pregnant she would be about 50 to 52 days and i dont feel anything in her stomach her stomach gotten bigger but i dont feel nothing but hardness. If she is pregnant i am exited cause i love the sight of birth even in dogs i seen a god birth before but i am not sure still.

Hi Judy. I know a good bit about animals, I actually finished school in the vet tech department. You said her nipples were kinda big. Are they kinda saggy and full around the nipple as well? You shouldn't HAVE to have a sonogram, the vet should also be able to feel of her tummy "palpation" and at least be able to feel if there are any puppies in her. They usually give birth around 58 to 63 days after they get pregnant, so just keep an eye on her. A couple of days before they give birth, they will usuall start going to a dark quiet place to make a bed( like a closet, under the bed, places like that) so if you notice her doing that, watch her closely. When they actually start going into labor they will stop eating and drinking, their core body temp will drop, they will start circling and scratching around the floor of their"bed", start shivering, and then when they are in full blown contractions you will see her begin to push. They can usually handle thing pretty well on their on because of instinct, but some do need a little help to get the ball rolling their first time. If you have anymore questions, let me know and if I don't know the answer I will try to look it up in one of my books from school. GOOD LUCK!!! [smiley=biggrin.gif]

Really all you are looking for when you feel of her tummy is "nots" kinda. You will have to push in a pretty good bit when you feel, gentle yet firm You can also try milking her.(I know that sound wierd) but that would tell you if she has milk or not. How distended is her belly? Good Luck!!!

They come into heat every six months. But they are not receptive to a male until they stop bleeding. But if she is having symptoms of pregnancy and does not give birth, she is having a false pregnancy. And you may need to talk to your vet about it. Let me know what happens when you milk her, hehe. How big is her belly?

Title: Re:  Anyone have pets?

I wish I could see her and then I could help you more. Some can go alittle over the stated times, like people giving birth late. Is she not eating at all? If this keeps going for another day or two, you need to take her to the vet and find out exactly what is going on. I hope everything works out for you. Keep me posted and I will try to help any way I can.                                             Nikki

Pets huh?

We live in a ZOO!   ;;D

We have part dog - part sPaZ black and white bark box named JoJo.   A 13 year-old ancient black cat that thinks he is still a kitten named Cocoa, an African Grey parrot named Sasha, and three russian dwarf hamsters that we never did get around to naming.

All the animals have let it be known that this is THEIR house and we are allowed the privilege of keeping them in food and occasionly they even allow us to bed down for the night.
