My father has MM and also has a shunt (it was place in Dec 03 because of hydrocephalus).  He is having some new disabilities.  It is difficult for the doctors to determine if it is caused by the shunt or perhaps the progression of the MM.  Has anyone else experienced this?  We also found out this month that the bypass that he had in Oct 03 has closed.  The doctors are working hard, but I am tempted to get in touch with Dr. Steinberg for a second opinion.  Does any of this ring a bell for anyone??

Hi aka. I don't know anything about shunts. My mom hasn't had to have one as of yet( thank goodness) But I believe if I were you, I would definately contact Dr. Steinberg. He will be doing my moms surgery on the 24th, and even though I am nervous about her having surgery, I am much more compfotable having him do it than anyone else considering all I have read about him. But go with your instincs. If you feel yall should get a second opinion, then get one!! Best of luck to you and your dad!                          Nikki
