:) Hi Julie...welcome to MM.com Good to have you here and especially to your last line about kids picking on your son having MM....I can imagine a 16 year old...teens are tough...being a mom to a 17 yr old and twin 15 year old boys...none of them have MM but the youngest twin seems to be picked on, too for other things. And Cara being almost 7 and a year older than everyone in her Kindergarten class...comes home telling me kids make fun of her delayed speech, little off coordination ...all which were affect by the ongoing process of MM (before surgery, during and post surgery)...and like you we have remained positive ...telling her to hang in there....those aren't your friends if they act that way...but it sure is tough to tell a little kid....luckily as she has 3 teen brothers that have made her tough as she has to tackle their teases, too. Hang in there....and we're here if theres anything else you want to ask or even share. Hugs, CarasMOM

Julie,
Welcome to this wonderful, caring mm site~~sorry you & your son had to go thru all of that & hope that his future is looking better!! I had my stroke in 1997 when my youngest daughter was in 3rd grade. The day that her teacher told her class that her mom had a "brain attack" , some of her classmates made fun of her on the bus, wouldn't sit with her and cried "Lynn's mom had a BRAIN ATTACK~~~A-A-G-H-H!!!!!!!!!!" She came home miserable & I couldn't really comfort her because I lost my speech & I felt so sorry for her to have to put up with "normal" behavior from kids. Now I can laugh about it with her but it was really hard at the time. It sounds like you have a great relationship with your son and, together, you can beat this tough time in his life... We're all in this together ;) Take care, debs |
