Title: Cold
Post by Seachelles on Feb 25th, 2005 at 6:42am
I came down with a cold last night and have been sneezing, watery eyes, slight headache, and of course a runny nose.

I've never gone to the doctor for a cold before, and just wanted to know if I would be ok in trying to get rid of this myself?  You know...lots of rest, plenty of liquids, staying warm, etc.  I'm not sure because of the mm.  Or maybe you all know of some things I could try over-the-counter.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. It seems like everybody I talk to lately is sick. I guess it's just the time of year for colds and flu, and we all have to fight it somehow, but IMO, I sure would be careful taking anything over the counter having MM, without first talking to your doctor, just to be safe, because as I understand it, cold/allergy medications constrict (shrink) veins and arteries in the nose and sinuses for drainage, to decrease congestion, so for some people with mm, it could be dangerous fooling around with anything that constricts blood vessels. That's just my  [smiley=twocents.gif]

I sure hope you're feeling better. You could always use alot of TLC, that helps some.[smiley=hug.gif]

Seachelles,
They talked about it on the site before and it was stated that Coricidan HPB was the only thing that can be safely taken. I'm not sure why I forget but Mandy took a box and a half when she had a cold and the sinus thing going on and she was fine. It probably isn't a bad idea to double check with a Doc. on that though. Hope you're feeling better.

Hi.  I just came upon your posting.  My girls go through the entire winter and spring (and pretty much fall and summer, too!!) with cold and allergy symptoms.  Our doctor told us nothing with psuedoephedrine in it (which pretty much eliminates all decongestants!!), as it is a vasoconstrictor.  However, if a cough is your major symptom, Robitussin DM is ok to take - no psuedoephedrine, and the two major ingredients are a cough suppressant and an expectorant.  Good luck - hope you're already feeling better by now!!
