Title: MM and Sex
Post by Shanna on Mar 9th, 2005 at 5:07pm
Hi everyone

I'm looking to see if anyone has had the same experience as me-  [smiley=huh.gif]

Sometimes during sex i will experience my leg shaking or weakness on one side...accompanied by a fuzziness in my head. Still, it passes after a couple minutes.

Sometimes after sex- i will experience a severe visual aura...and i cannot see all the way- almost like i am looking through a cracked mirror. It lasts for hours...recently this is a symptom i am experiencing around 20 minutes after i have had sex. I have trouble walking because i seem to have no depth perception. My vision and orientation are messed up, but i experience no pain. I usually get this same type of visual aura with my migrane headaches- but this feels a little different.

is this moyamoya related, or just a migrane?
Has anyone (particularly any women) had this too???

Thanks

Shanna

Hey, you may have already answered this question, but I haven't been on in a while. Have you already had surgery? Have you consulted your doctor about any of this? In my opinion, I would think that it could be mm related since sex raises heart rate and so forth. I would definately talk to your doc about it.

hi there

no, i haven't had surgery. this month i need to have the spect test done...and then we should have a discussion about surgery. UCLA and KAISER seem to disagree about which surgical procedure should be done on me.

anyway, i always mention the symptom to the doctors and no one seems super concerned by it... i wondered if anyone else had experienced it, especially the weird eye site....

thanks for the reply

Shanna  ;)

Shanna,
I believe what you are experiencing is elivated blood pressure, that causes you to have these migeaine like symtomes. Sorry for my spelling. I get the same way after  I work out too hard at the gym or when my husband gets to wild in bed, to some degree. You seem to have it as bad as I had it before my surgery. My sugestion is when you start feeling funny ask your lover to take it slow and give you a breather untill your blood pressure comes down. Then you can go back into it. Your partner may not like the pausing but if you don't like having those feelings then that might help you stablize yourself enough to truely enjoy sex without the after-pain. I still get woosy and some times doulbe vision but as soon as I feel like I can't lift my head up I just slow down and\or stop and rest then get back into the work out or sex.  You can still get the Full enjoyment it just may take a bit longer to "finish" with all the pausing but it will be worth it not to have the migeaines afterword.
Good luck.
Becky

Shanna,

I, too went through very similar symptoms as yours. But, I actually passed out afterwards. Lost all consciousness. My then, husband...would joke and say he wore me out. Which, according to my neurologist, he did just that.
Prior to my surgery, it was recommended by my neurologist to postpone sexual activity until after my surgery and follow up. In my situation, it was told to me that I was pumping blood to other parts of the body, my breathing became shallow, therefore, MY brain was getting very little blood or oxygen.
Just my two cents. lol, I am now separated and going through a divorce, so I don't need to worry about this particular part of this illness.

:-[     Hi all I haven't been on in a while but all I can say is please be careful.  I suffered a major stroke immediately following sex.  I'm a male and 46 at the time.  I met another MM sufferer online who is female and she suffered a major stroke during sex.  We've become good e-mail and phone friends but she wont get involved with our web site here.
The neurosurgeon that first diagnosed my MM said that sex really raises your BP.  He even asked if I was having an affair because that will sky rocket your BP so all Moyamoyaers remain faithfull! [smiley=laugh.gif].  My friend was actually instructed by her doctor to take her BP med 2 hours before sex [smiley=huh.gif].  I should also mention that I was completely unaware that I even had MM.  My stroke was my first and only symptom.  I would see my doctor if I were you.
    Stay healthy
