Title: I am finally home! Post by Kath41 on Mar 29th, 2005 at 11:24am
Hello Everyone [smiley=wave.gif]
I finally made it home today(March 29)!! I came back from Stanford on March 17th only to have to stay at Childrens Mercy Hospital here in Kansas City with my youngest daughter who had been admitted on the 16th with a horrible rash/fever that the doctors were not sure what was going on, ends up she had a critical reaction to a sulphur based antibiotic that became so critical she had to have a chest tube inserted to drain the fluid off her lungs and then they had to closely monitor her liver enzymes that had risen to a dangerous level, after the doctors blasted her system with massive doses of steroids for three days to help with the inflammation going on in her body, her enzymes began to slowly return to normal levels, the great news is that we were able to come home today! I am so grateful that I was able to be able to be with my baby!! Thanks to Dr. Steinberg and the wonderful care from his staff I was actually able to leave Stanford ahead of schedule ;;D. I just read the article, LOVED IT!! I learned things about the surgery I did not even know :) They took the picture of Dr. Steinberg and me after I had the xenon test and it took everything I had to try to look normal because I was trying terribly not to get sick, I could not finish the test because it made me so sick!! Then they wanted pictures ::) Out of the whole surgery stuff I would have to say that the xenon test was the worst thing!!! Denise Grady is such a nice person, very down to earth and she really wanted to learn all she could about MM, I enjoyed visiting with her and the experience was great! Jill I am sorry we never could get our schedules to work out to meet each other but thank you for calling and checking on me, I truly apprecaited it. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers and I hope everyone is doing well Hugs [smiley=hug.gif] Kathleen |

WELCOME HOME!!! I'm so glad your daughter is recovering also....as if you needed more stress! I'm thrilled that you had a wonderful experience and great outcome. Now you just have to heal so make sure you are taking lots of time for yourself!!! I'm thinking of you!

Kathleen!!! It is so great to have you home and doing well, I hope. Sorry to hear about your daughter, but it seems like she's doing well now and I was just glad that you were able to be with her in the hospital.
I'm so glad that everything went so well...except for the Xenon Test. Don't you just love that thing! Ughhh....I'm returning for follow-ups in May and not looking forward to that one at all. I may have my brother come in and monitor how I'm doing. This test scares me. The article turned out really great! It was amazing learning some of the things they did while we were under that we had no idea of. Truly an amazing thing! And you were so brave to have done this! :) Hope you continue to get better and like Chelsie said....take time out for you! Michelle |

Hi Kevin!
Is that when you will be having your surgeries? I will be out in Stanford May 1-5th for follow-ups so if you want to have someone to come and visit you, then I will be glad to do so. It's the least I can do to give you support. :) Let me know. What date is your first surgery? Michelle |
