Title: Post-surgery updat Post by ha on Jun 27th, 2005 at 2:01am
Hi everyone,
I am back :). It's hard to believe that it has been one month since my surgery. Although I had only one surgery this time, my recovery has been slower than those of many of you from this website. My surgery went well. Dr. Steinberg said that I had good graph. But I had really low blood pressure right after the surgery. And they did have to change my pain medication several times as I felt serious dizziness immediately after taking the medicine. I felt so weak that I couldnot walk a lot in the hospital and could not look into internet after a couple of minutes. I heard that Rene, another Moyamoya patient who was having two surgeries at the same time with me, walked a lot more and even went down to the cafeteria. It's also amazing that DJ could start this website very soon after his surgeries. I still felt weak after getting discharged. I was awake many times at night, feeling so thirsty. I found that slightly massaging my head, mostly on the other side of course, and my two ears has helped me to sleep better. I also try to increase my walking distance and breath fresh air as much as I can. They took the staples out of my head one week after my surgery. I washed my hair the next day, which quite a relief. But it really made me a bit more headaches after that. I feel better now but still not in full recovery. One thing that worries me is the bad swooshing sounds I have had on my right side after surgery, which I did not have before. It seems that many of you had those sounds before your surgeries and they went away after surgeries. I just wonder if anyone has had similar experience and if there are ways to get rid of that so annoying sound. I have recently had some headache on the other sides of my head, and the numbness starts to apprear again, sometimes on my left hand, sometimes on my right hand. Dr. Steinberg and Teresa were very kind to me. Jill has been so nice and so helpful to me. She met me the day before my surgery in Stanford, waited with my friend during my surgery, and drove me home when I was discharged. Thank so much too to all of you who share your experience, advice, and pray for me during those days. Hugs and loves, Ha |

Ha-
Glad to hear you are doing okay! I too had sounds in my head after surgery they were not swooshing sounds but more like ticking sounds but they went away eventually who knows what are heads are doing after what they have been through. I also had a hard time looking at the computer after my surgery too. Everyone is very diferent and it takes some longer to recover than others so be patient. Keep us updated and i will keep you in my thoughts! Take care! [smiley=heart.gif]Christy |

Hi, Ha. Thank you for the update. I'm glad you are back and that the surgery went well.
Give yourself time -- everyone heals differently. My daughter did great after her first surgery, but had a difficult time recovering (lots of pain) after the second one. So even in the same person, recovery time for the surgery can fluctuate. Jenny |

Ha,
Hi...looks like you and I had our surgery about the same time (May 27). I am still recovering...and just had an MRI/MRA last week. Have you had one since your surgery? Mine still showed blood in the area...my left arm/leg is also weaker than my right. I too was feeling weak and couldn't walk without a walker a few days after surgery... Also like you, I have headaches on both sides of my head (surgery on my right side), and both my left and righ side hands have some tingling. My neuro said it could be because of the blood still in my head putting pressure... Have you had other tests? i.e. EEG? CTA? Keep in touch... Take care, SFH |

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and kind words. I came back to San Jose after two weeks in Grass Valley, CA. I spent most of the time there doing meditation, breathing fresh air, tai chi, and some light activities. I also ate healthy food. I think all of these helped a lot. My condition have recovered very quickly that makes me feel almost like normal. However, when I tried harder by taking a trip to Yosemite, it seems that it's still too hard for me to take a moderate hiking.
Shan, Sorry that you have the same problems as mine. I haven't had any MRI/MRA or other tests after surgery. Dr. Steinberg only asked me to have an angiogram test which I will take by the end of August. Hope you recover soon. Ha |
