Title: Louise (bike) Post by mg12061 on Jul 9th, 2005 at 2:23pm
The bike we got for Kathleen is a Rifton adaptive bike. You can see it on www.rifton.com The adaptions on her bike are pedal straps, pully system in the pedals that help the pedal come back around,Large seat with lap belt, and trunk strap,It looks like a large tricycle very stable. It didn't come with a hand strap for her left hand but we4 will be adfding that, actually I think the way they adapt that is a glove with velcro. She's doing great with it and even learning to steer even with the one hand. Another company that makes these bikes is freedomconcepts.com They were more expensive, but they did have on their web site some great examples of justification letters for insurance. There's alos some companies who offer grants to pay for the bikes.I'm not sure how much your daughter needs but some reg local bike companies are usually willing to work with you to make some adaptions(Kathleen's needs were too great for that type of adaptions).I've also seen people use lawn mower wheels as training wheels they're bigger and steadier.Good luck if you have any questions let me know.
