Hi all

I was wondering those of you who have had indirect bypass done when did the DR see the artery growing? I know that it can take  6 to 12 months. But Brad (my son Extremelife17) had a MRA done this weekend and there is no change on the left side since surgery. He had surgery done dec 13 in boston. He lives in florida know and these DR dont have a idea of whats going on. Hopefully we will be going to miami soon.  But I want to ask how soon anyone else knew that the artery was growing or if this is normal and happened to anyone else.

I had a check-up 6 weeks post surgery but no tests were done.  My next checkup was at a year post surgery when I had my angio.  At a year Dr. Scott was very pleased with the number of new vessels that had formed.  However, I did notice a big difference after my surgeries in that I had no more TIAs.

I stress, as always, that everyone has different experiences with their surgeries.  Please consult Brad's doctor if you are worried.

Daphne had an MRI, MR Angiogram and Perfusion study at Philadelphia a few weeks ago, following up on her hematoma (they had to get the MRI, and so threw the other tests on, too).  This was about three months after her indirect bypass surgeries (she's scheduled for more studies in Stanford in September).

They did not tell me about veins growing in, but the Superficial temporal arteries were visible  -- especially on the left (on the right, old blood from the hematoma may have been blocking the view).  They said that this meant that the arteries were working well.

They also said the perfusion study showed good blood flow to many parts of the brain.  The areas that weren't getting much blood, in general, correlated with the areas Daphne had injury from the strokes (which they said they'd expect)

Could they tell you how visible the ST artery was?  Also, could they do a SPEC or perfusion study to see the level of blood flow to the brain?
