Title: Wearing his MM wristband
Post by CarasMOM on Aug 5th, 2005 at 3:32am
One of Cara's brothers, Bryan,  has faithfully wore his blue MM awareness band all summer !!!  I had gotten the youth sizes...tad tight but anyway...he has tan mark but wears it.  The other two take it off...and have misplaced theirs.   But Bryan came home from football camp today...still wearing it.   His football coach yelled at him for wearing it, and demanded him remove it and the coach would return it after the camp was over (2 1/2 days)...a gentleman he was ...took it off and gave it to the coach.  The coach said why a blue one (which isn't a common one...yet...)  The coach read it..."MOYAMOYA AWARENESS"...and asked Bryan what is MM????  He swallowed hard and said its something my little sister, Cara, has...gave a brief description.  The coach was touched that he gave it back to Bryan to put it back on !!!!   I got goosebumps and teary eyed, so did my husband...who went ..awww thats nice.  We can't believe a year ago...we all were scared for our little Cara...she was very pale most of the summer.  No swimming as she had all the tests in June, surgery #1 in July, must wait six weeks before you can immerse your head in the water again...but surgery #2 was five weeks later...then another six weeks...and as most of you know she had some very tough months after that with all those little but too many TIA's.

You will see her in Vegas...nice tan, giggling, full of energy, so loving, HUGS EVERYONE..that I have to watch her !!!!!  A BIG people person....so I know she'll enjoy the MM crowd...and DJ beware...she's gonna love you !!!!

Carol,

I got teary eyed and choked up when I read your post.

Great job your son did.  Perhaps the coach is a little more humble as a result.

I can't wait to hug Cara! [smiley=hug.gif]

God Bless

Carol,

What a heartwarming story!  Give Bryan a big  [smiley=hug.gif] from all of us!

I too have ordered the light blue MM wristbands, and I truly believe that it will help us raise awareness and spread the word when people ask us "what exactly is moyamoya?"  My story regarding the wristband concerns my husband who does not wear any type of jewelry..no watch, no rings, bracelets, chains, etc.. However, the other day, I noticed he was wearing the MM wristband I gave to him!  I didn't say anything, although now I'm thinking maybe I should've said "thank you"....but I grinned  ;;D and my  [smiley=heart.gif] was touched....

My friends are coordinating a fundraiser this month, and they suggested that we distribute the wristbands to those in attendance... ;)....Get ready for my order, DJ..

Thanks again, Carol, for sharing your story.  Don't forget to give Bryan a BIG HUG from all of us!  [smiley=hug.gif]

Take care,
Shan

Carol,

See, even teenage boys have hearts (hee, hee)!  Good for Bryan!!!   Please tell him that his extended family is VERY proud of him, o.k.?

Can't wait to meet you and Cara in LV!

Karen,

At the top of the page is an online store and you can order them through there.  Just remember that the adult size runs large.  I've got a child's size on myself.

Hello Carol,

           What a heartfelt story.  :) :)
Another person is now aware of MM, and for your son to take the time to explain it. It's wonderful for Cara to have such support from her family.

Cara,

Thanks for your post.
We are so new to all of this.
Our 4 year old son was just diagnosed with MM and we are so scared.  He is due to have the cranial revasularization in March at Boston Children's Hospital.

Knowing that your dear girl is doing well helps this mother's heart so very much.

Sincerely,
Cheryl in NM - YuYu's mom
