Title: Dizziness? Post by shgr on Aug 25th, 2005 at 6:55pm
Hello all,
I had my 2 by-pass surgeries on June 29th and July 6th. I am doing better and better, besides my continuing headaches. However, I am experiencing very bad dizziness and lightheadedness when I stand up. Almost everytime I stand up, I quickly become dizzy and often "see black". Being concerned, I spoke with my 2 neurologists in town and they simply reiterated what I was told at Stanford: to stay very hydrated. I try to stay very hydrated with fluids filled with potassium and sodium. However, no matter how much I drink, my blood pressure is always very low (90/60 range). :-/ I was wondering if anyone else experienced this before or after by-pass surgery and/or figured out how to fix it? Thank you for any suggestion or help. smiles and hugs, :D Stephanie R. |

Hey Stephanie!!!
Glad to see you're back and that the worst is over. I still get headaches to this day although for the first few months after my bypasses they were intense, now they are not as bad, and don't last as long and I can live with them. I also still get occasional dizziness as I have always had low blood pressure mine ranges between 110/60 to 118/65- my neurosurgeon had me go for an EEG to make sure nothing was wrong. You may find that this will settle down over a period of time as the blood vessels are establishing themselves and this might be affecting your blood pressure. I was originally told that it would take 6 months before the bypasses would truly establish the blood flow, and things would then settle down. Hang in there - it will come good!! Best wishes Moira |

Moira,
Thank you for all the great insight. It sounds like I may just need to relax and be more patient. It is so hard to do that though. I have had to be so proactive up until now. I am sure you can relate!!! I feel like if I will miss some subtle, very important symptom if I do not remain vigilent. But, I will try to relax and I thank you, Moira. Oh...and I might ask my doc about the EEG. Stephanie R. :D |

Hi Steph,
I also just realised that you WILL get dizziness and lightheadedness from low blood pressure!!!So this may have nothing to do with the bypasses but have everything to do with the low blood pressure. Hope this helps to put your mind at rest again Take care Moira |
