Hi Emma,
Just wanted you to know that you are not the only one. My husband Bob has type 1 diabetes since he was 5 and he is now 40. He was diagnosed with MM in June of 2005 and had his surgery in June and the other side in July. His recovery has been slow, assuming due to the diabetes (it usually takes twice as long for a diabetic to heal then a normal person). Anyway, he is finally this past month doing better. His only symptom before his diagnosis was debilitating migraines. We were very fortunate that he didn't have any strokes or anything. We are going back to Stanford this February for his follow-up. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Terry |

Hi Terry,
Thanks for your post. I was getting a bit worried that there was no one else out there with MM and diabetes. Recovery is much longer when you have diabetes. I had my first surgery in Dec 2004 and suffered a stroke afterwards and spent 8 weeks in hospital but my wound did not heal for some time. It is great that your husband has not had any strokes. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone :) Thanks again Emma |

Hi Emma,
Just a quick note (it's hard for me to be on the site regularly due to I can only be on at work) Anyway just checking up on you. How are you since your stroke? Better I hope. Also how is your overall recovery? My husband is better but is still having a lot of migraines. We finally found a nuerologist that is actually wanting to help him. We live in Redding California and Redding doesn't have the doctors that are really concerned with their patients you might say. (It might be just the fear of the MM and not knowing how to help??) I will try to check a little more often to see your reply. Terry |

Hi Emma. No, you're definitely not the only one, but I suspect there aren't too many. My daughter Jessica has had type 1 diabetes since she was 6 years old, and she's now 29. She was diagnosed with MM after a stroke when she was 19. She can't read or write any more, so I do her typing and computer communicating for her, and I keep track of what's going on on this message board. Glad to meet you, although we're sorry you even have to be here. Good luck & keep in touch. Jennette (JessisMom)

Hi Emma,
I have type II diabetes since 12 years old (I'm 51) that is why when I had my TIA's (since 38ish) I took it as LOW SUGAR ( I was fooling myself ). Any way I had a big TIA when I was 40 & found out it was MM. I had surgery last June but stayed at Stanford longer till my surgar went down.....that was yukky, getting insulin shots 3 times a day. Now, I'm doing "ok." We just really need to watch what we eat....and I cheat a lot. Best itsme |

Hi,
My son is 13 years old and has diabetes he was diagnosed in 2005 after having a kidney transplant in2004 I was told that his steroids were the cause. July 2006 he had a small TIA while playing basketball and after many test was diagnosed with moyamoya. He was diagnosed with another rare syndrome Vater's at birth that resulted in his kidney failure. From Vater's he also had V(spinal-scoliosis repair, A- anal born with no anus and a colstomy constructed, none of the TE stuff, but the big one was R-for renal which resulted in his kidneys to fail when he was 11 years old. Know this and he says if it can happen it will happen to him, but he is generally a happy kid. Good luck to you, Lucke :o |
