Title: Has anyone had headaches and nausea?
Post by Michelle on Jan 14th, 2006 at 6:09pm
Hi,
I'm sorry it's been so long since I've posted.  My daughter Cally had surgery on both sides 5 years ago this month.  For the past 2 months she has been really sick.  It started with a severe headache and vomiting for several days.  After several trips to the doctor and ER, where blood tests were done,  they determined she had a virus.  She still was sick at her stomach all the time.  Finally, last month they determined she had a dysfunctional gallbladder. So she had that removed.  (She is 15 years old) She is still having stomach problems and headaches almost daily.  We are scheduled to she the neurologist Monday.  I'm going to request a CAT scan and MRI.  She had not had one since 1 year aafter her surgery.  If anyone has had any of these problems I would love to hear from you.

Sincerely, Michelle Fredieu

Hi Michelle,
I'm concerned your daughter hasn't had follow up MRI's since her surgery. She should be having an MRI every 6 months, an MRI/MRA every 12 months and an angiogram at least once by now to see how the surgery is working.

A couple of years before I was diagnosed with MM, I had gall bladder problems but I was 34 at the time; I still experience headaches occasionally after Bypass surgery in 2001 (both sides 6 months apart) .

I'm sorry I can't help you with your query, but I would get a new neurologist and/or neurosurgeon who WILL keep adequate track of your daughter's condition

Thanks Moira,
Cally did have an angiogram 1 year after her surgery.  Her neurosurgeon said that her vessels looked extremely well.  Dr. Dauser at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston is her doctor.  He is the one that invented the procedure by flipping over a piece of brain dura.  He also used a scalp artery to bypass the clogged arteries.  I don't know why he doesn't seem to think he should see her again.  She has lead an extremely normal life until the recent health problems.  Thank you for your thoughts.    Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I have frequent nausea too, but I don't believe it's directly related to my MM.  My gastroenterologist has me taking Omerprazole (generic for Prilosec or Prevacid) 2-3 times daily.  Does your daughter take a lot of meds?  Aspirin?  My dr. thinks that since I'm taking quite a few meds, including aspirin and Aggrenox which includes aspirin, it could be affecting my stomach.  I've also had numerous untrasounds on my gallbladder, pancreas, etc, to make sure that everything was okay.

The possibility of medications having an effect on your  daughter may not be her case, but I just thought I'd share.  By the way, does she have a gastroenterologist?  If not, that would be my suggestion. :D  I hope all went well at her neuro appt on Monday.  Please keep us posted.

Take care,
Shan

Hi Michelle!                                                                        My 5 Year old daughter gets headaches every once in a while and every single time that she gets them she throws up. I find that she gets these headaches when she doesn't get enough sleep or when she has had a very busy day. When she gets these headaches the only thing that takes these away is some rest. She usually takes a nap and then she feels better. We have been told by our nerologist  that these headaches are Moya Moya related and also because she is on Lovenox shots. Speaking of MRI/MRA Allyssa is having hers this Tuesday. Take care!
