Hi Moody....
I actually didn't realize I was going through a bout of depression. Every time my boyfriend or family talked to me it seemed as though they were just trying to butt into my life and tell me how to run it. It just made me more irritable and got me pissed off. Well, it was a good thing my cousin was watching me all along and she noticed that I was really moody and she was the one who suggested that I go to my doctor and have it checked out. I'm sure glad she did, the antidepressants have helped tremendously and I was losing a lot of weight (that's the good part). Now my appetite has come back and my mood swings are a thing of the past. I hope you got some help with your mood swings...it's not only you. A lot of others here have gone through the same thing. Just remember....we're here for you!! Aloha, Jan |

This is a take off from my original topic of "MOOD SWINGS OR EXTRA EMOTIONAL" The original topic started back in October 2005 (I think). I thought I was going crazy when I started having my mood swings. Now things are much better.
Aloha, Jan |

Moody-
I read that the dostor put you on an antidepressant because of headaches and weakness. Almost six years ago i started having real bad headaches so i went to the doctor and after many test he too said it was caused by stress (tension headaches) I was on an antidepressant for a few months and it just made things worse for me. I had bad mood swings and did not feel good most of the time. I eventually took myself off of the medication. A few years later I am diagnosed with MM and learn that a common symptom is cronic headaches. My whole point is that i feel that doctors are too quick to hand out antidepressants when they cant find anything else wrong. I know that some people really need antidepressants but for people who dont i think it causes more problems. Christy |

Hey Emily!
Every surgeon and neurologist I consulted with (all five) indicated that I probably had moya moya for a long time. While I do not think they can diagnose for sure, they guess this due to the development of the collateral/moyamoya vessels. My network of vessels were quite extensive, and this takes time, so I think that is why they said that I likely had it for a long time. Just my 2 cents, Trina PS - sorry to hear about Karly! :) |

Just wanted to add that Daphne was diagnosed with Moyamoya when she was 15 months old, after suffering two strokes; however she had seizures since about three months old. I guess judging by her symptoms and the severity of her Moyamoya, Dr. Steinberg and team told us they thought Daphne probably had moyamoya in utero. I think its just a guess... there's no exact way to know when it started. But there are "stages" of moyamoya, and also when certain symptoms started can give a clue.
Also, Daphne, at the tender age of two is a very moody little girl. She has some days where she's just a joy to be around, others where she sleeps half the day, and others where every little thing gets her upset. She also has days when she acts a little meloncholy... no crying or whining, but not much smiling or giggling either. Some days her vision and concentration is better than others, some days she is more vocal. She is very inconsistant and confusing! Some days I think I'm the one who needs antidepressants! Jenny |
