Title: Hyperbaric Oxygen treatment for stroke
Post by dsrm5482 on Feb 9th, 2006 at 5:34pm
Wondering if anyone here has had or knows someone who underwent Hyperbaric oxygen treatment for stroke. I've been looking into it and it sure looks promising (even for post-stroke).  Unfortunately, insurance considers it "off-label" use and will not cover it.  There's plenty of info on the web if anyone else is interested in checking it out.

I have been very interested in HBOT.  I know of several families with children who have seizure disorders and/or brain injuries, who've noticed very positive results.   I've been afraid of it with Daphne, though, because I don't know if it would cause problems with her blood vessels -- the information I've read says it dilates blood vessels, which I would think would be a good thing; but I don't know any doctors who are objective enough to make me feel like I'd be making a well educated decision.  They either seem to be all for it (the alternative doctors/practitioners) or totally skeptical (the allopathic doctors).

I would think it would be interesting to see how HBOT could affect moyamoya.   If anyone has information or knows of any studies specific to moyamoya, I would love to know  ;;D
