Title: Medical Alert Bracelets Post by Michell on Feb 17th, 2006 at 2:59am
I was reading CarasMom's post about the MoyaMoya bracelets you can buy on the site when it hit me, should Trey have a medical alert bracelt with his disease on it---yes, I'm pretty sure he should. I know he is only 2 1/2 and probably wont wear one but I guess I could try or at least attach it to his diaper bag. Does anyone else wear a medical alert bracelet for their MM? If so what do you have written on it? Also, he is hemaplegic (spelling might be wrong) on the left side due to the second stroke, should that be on it as well? He has only had seizures when he has strokes, so I don't want to put anything about seizures on it and as far as stroke meds, he only takes a 1/2 baby aspirin a day. I guess we would need to put to avoid certain types of medicines due to his MM. Although, I have had a really hard time getting anyone to write out a list of what he can take or if the list would be shorter to write out what he can not take.
Thanks, Michell |

Hi Michel,
Funny you should ask this now! When we were in Princeton last month, Shari had one, and it was great. In fact, we pretty much duplicated hers, and have ordered one for Tara just this week. Here is what hers will look like: Front Tara MacInnes Stroke Patient Taking Aspirin Sulfa Allergy Back I have Moyamoya I had 2 STA-MCA Surgeries In June 2004 See Wallet Card We haven't printed a wallet card out yet, but it will include things like aspirin dosage, doctors' phone #s, etc. There are several sites to choose from, but the one we used was www.americanmedical-id.com. Hope you're all doing well! [smiley=heart.gif] Jill |

Hi all:
I use a Cadex medical alert watch. It has been incredibly useful. It allows you to set 12 alarms for taking pills. It also allows you to put in information about doctors (including numbers), your name, insurance info, and disease information (among others, like SSN and credit card which I don't recommend putting in, in case you lose it). It can be found on multiple websites (just do a search on google) - some places also allow you to wear it around your neck for an extra cost, instead of like a watch, which is handy for me as I just slip it around my neck before I head out for work each day (we won't talk about how I lost it this morning when I took it off briefly in a meeting - but I luckily found it later!). It looks like a digital watch and is not as pretty as some of those bracelets, AND costs close to $60+ but for me, who is incredibly forgetful, it's been very helpful. Just some additional information... Trina |

I ordered a Med-ID about a week ago (also curtesy of seeing Shari's in Princeton). Mine will read:
Front: Greg Left Middle Corotid - Artery Restriction Prone to TIA's Back: Emergency Contact: Name & Phone Number See Wallet Card I also used americanmedical-id.com While you are waiting for your ID to come in the mail, you can create a free wallet card at http://www.medids.com/free-id.php Hope this helps, Greg |

Wow I was just researching bracelets for Tyler and I. Tylers will match Tara's down to the sulfa allergy. :o
I need one for my heart, dang this is a hard thing to get used to. P.S. Does anyone know of a bracelet or necklace that you can put more than 3 lines of information on? |

I wear an SOS Talisman medical bracelet. It's a stainless steel bracelet that has a capsule which has a lid that you can unsrew to reveal a strip of paper that is folded into a concertina. Details on the strip of paper include name, date of birth, address, three emergency contact numbers, religion, blood group, allergies, medications, vaccinations and enough room for a description of your medical conditions and treatment.

I had a a bracelet at one point. I lost it and need to get a new one, but it was from MedAlert. On the bracelet itself it said MOYAMOYA and PRONE TO STROKE. It then had a phone number that they could call. When they called the service it gave them two emergency contacts, my primary care doctor, Dr. Steinberg and a list of my medications.
They came in all sorts of pretty designs (masculine ones too) and came with a tag tha you could also wear around your neck. It came in handy a couple of times when I was taken by ambulance to the hospital and was unable to speak. I highly recommend MedAlert. |
