Title: MM AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE Post by patch on Jul 14th, 2006 at 5:49am
Hi
I have developed hypertension after my surgeries. My GP is at a loss to explain this (no sign of this prior to surgeries). I had my surgeries 8 months ago. I am on coversyll and vasocardol but still do not have it in control. I am curious whether anyone else had a similar experience ? thanks Helene |

Hi,
My name is Shirley,my daughter Jeanette has MM. She has always had a problem with high blood pressure. Even before she was told she had MM,they have alway had trouble controling it. They can't say it is connected with MM.or not and can't find the cause for it and they have checked everything they can think of that might cause it. I know this doesn't help you but your not alone. |

My daughter had high blood pressure before her surgeries (she was 1 and a half years old at the time). Since then, it's been on the high range of normal for her age, but she has not needed medication. I think it's actually good to have slightly high blood pressure with moyamoya disease (more blood flow getting to the head), but bad to have significantly high blood pressure.
I think it would be worth trying to find a cause. First, how recent have your tests been? Does the surgery seem to have been a success? Also, people who have moyamoya can sometimes have narrowing in other arteries. It's not typical, but it happens. If there is a narrowing in the arteries that lead to the kidney, or in the heart, that could cause high blood pressure. My daughter had a congenital heart defect (a narrowing of her aorta), in addition to her moyamoya. She has a genetic disorder that caused both conditions. We recently had her undergo a chest/abdominal/renal MRI, in addition to her brain MRI, to make sure she didn't have any other vascular problems. If no other cause for high blood pressure can be found, you might consider asking about an MRI of those areas, too. Most likely it isn't anything like that. High blood pressure and moyamoya can go hand in hand -- but better to be safe! Jenny (mom to Daphne. www.daphnestory.com) |
