Hi everyone, I was just wondering if any of you take any form of birth control pills. My daughter is getting older and we were told that she should never take any form of birth control. I'm thinking there must be something out there that would be safe for her to take. She suffers from high blood pressure along with the moyamoya. she doesn't take anything though for the blood pressure because the doctors here say it is too risky.

I take Microlut which is a progesterone only mini pill. After I had my last child, my ob-gyn consulted with my neurosurgeon and this is what they came up with. I guess every medication has some risks attached to it - I would personally prefer not to take anything but can't get my hubby to face the knife! (Poor darling!!)

I believe my MM was brought on by my original birth control, but was told that it is the oestrogen that causes the complications

My OB and neuro team have decided that the safest thing was no BCP.  IUD and other forms of non-hormonal birth control are okay, but the hormones in the birth control increases the D-dimer which is a measurement of the viscosity (thickness) of the blood.  At least in my case I need as much perfusion to the brain so anything that would decrease the ability for blood to get to my brain is out.  Be careful!! There are other options rather than hormonal birth control.

I was put on Microlut a progesterone only mini pill, right when I had my stroke.
I now have an IUD. I love it! My husband says he can't feel it and I love not having to remember my pill. But I don't think it is for young women.
She could always go with a dipharam or that cap thingy.

I wanted to go on the pill and never take the week off and just keep taking it, but I figured their might be some risks and I didn't want to worry about.  The only reason I wanted to was b/c the intensity of my MM symptoms during that time of the month. I usually don't post about personal things like that, but it's been bothering me for years... I get so lethargic and sick and my vision and TIAs are several times worse.  Top that off with no sleep and weather changes and other stressors which all bring on symptoms and I'm just a wonderful person as I try to pass some major exams... It's not a pretty picture.  

Do other people have troubles around the time?  Or even when they get injured and start losing lots of blood?  

I took birth contol for years without realizing I wasn't supposed to.. I started having migranes more frequently than usual and was having other issues. So, they took me off the pill. I now have an IUD and I think it is great! Unfortunately, your daughter won't be able to use an IUD until after she has a baby.

Not to change the subject totally, but I went to the ob/gyn this week and she wants to put me on prometrium.  She called my local neuro and he said it was alright.  However, I have looked it up on the net and it sounds kind of risky.  Does anyone know anything about it?  Thanks in advance. Rhonda

Hey everyone, I just went to the OB today because I was told to get off the pill.  And I was talking with her and she gave my information on the IUD that is made of copper and total free of any hormones.  And from what I read any one can use it.  You don't have to be a certain age or have had a baby.  I wish I knew about this earlier, I hated taking the pills.  Just food for thought. :D

i didnt really search this very well before posting my recent thread.....

i have been on implanon implant, for 6 months... but cant handle the irregular, sometimes continous weeks!) bleeding..

questions.... IUD: does anyone on this have bad side effects like irregular or heavy periods??

mini-pill: is it hard to take it every 12 hrs religously? is it so strict that if you miss ir or are a little late,  you have to worr?

I am part of the 10% of people that take progesterone only things (pills then IUD) that didn't get the cycle. They call it hormonaly supressed. My OB talked to my Nurologest and they said it was fine. I am am on the IDU Mirena.

My OB said that I could get one even if I have not had a baby yet.

I can still get pregnet if I take it out but it is not worth it untill its time to take it out after five years.

My IDU is made of plastic like substance and the strings are like what my husband said " heavy guage fishing line".  My husband took only two times before he said he doesn't realy feel the strings.  I hope this helps.

i would very much like to have no cycle! i used to only get my period 2 times a year... but now its like 3 times a month on this implant! yuck.....
i read that you can get hearvy periods on the IUD? you dont?
i am going on the progesterone only pill tomorrow (and getting this implant out)... so hopefully that might help!

Yes I don't get my cycle. My gyno said that this can happen with progestren only things. It thins your lining so there is nothing for the egg to stick to. or it is so thin you don't have much to cycle out. They say you can have a range from 2 day or so heavy in the begining, to lite for a week, to lite for 2 days or so. then the nothing at all. The nothig is rare but not uncomon. I checked with my nuro and he said that if the gyno says is it okay then it is okay. He later did some resurch and said it is okay to not cycle too.

People's headaches don't get worse? I read side effects for lots of things and it seems that headaches can get worse.

Also, how much weight do people gain? I'm small and I want to keep it that way.  It will be obvious if I gain the average 15 pounds that the shot mentions.
