Title: Waking up in the morning. Post by ladybugz on Oct 12th, 2006 at 12:32am
Do people have more difficulty getting out of bed in the morning than usual? Even after surgery and such? My boss makes me work well before 7am and I keep trying to explain that I think it's the MM that makes it difficult to get out of bed. For some reason, if I get up too early I just can't think, function, or move. By the end of the day, my headaches are so dabilitating (sp??, sorry, it's been a long day) and then I have to study for advanced science courses ... Your thoughts?
What happens when you can't get someone to understand what you are going through??? Seriously, this is not fun. |

BUGZ,
I cannot answer that question from experience, I can answer it from my limited education, I am taught that the majority of strokes in eldery (not nessecararily mm )pt will occur in the morning. this is due to the rapid increase in BP as your body goes from a resting state to a moving state. How a rapid increse in BP affects MM I dont know. but I have to ask do you get enough sleep? Maybe your just not a morning person, do you drink a coffee in the morning ? caffine is a vasoconstrictor. I know this isnt much help sorry but wanted to let you know my thoughts Mike |

I just wnated to share our personal experience also.i'm not sure if it will help.Mike had some good thoughts on this also.
Strokes are most common in hte early morning because of the changes in BP.Kathleen actually woke up one morning before her surgeries with no use of her right arm.She ahd suffered a stroke in her sleep, and Iwas sleeping right beside her at the time. since Kahtleen was a baby she has always had a difficult time waking up.It's better now BUT before her surgeries(4yrs ago),just about every morning she would wake up crying. It would take her soemtimes 30 minutes before she would completely wake up.The crying was kind of in her sleep her eyes weren't even open yet.We jsut thought this was her way of waking up.We didn't connect ti to the MM until sometime after surgeries we noticed that she wasn't crying every morning. It kind of tapered off.She deos need LOTS of s;eep though still. She needs at least 12 hours to have "good" day.I do get extremely fustrated by school someitmes when they don't take me seriously about what she might be feeling. She isn't really verbal enough to tell them and she tends to jsut say " I'm fine" no matter what.I believe she has gotten used to all the stuff that she feels because it's probably been almost ehr whole life so to her it's just normal. She also seems to need to eat something every couple hours or she gets lethargic.I'm so sorry that your boss has no compasion for what yoru going through.Would he listen to something that your Dr. could write up??? I know our doc is great abut writting anything we need to make life easier for Kathleen.Goos luck.... I hope I didn't confuse you even more. Mary Grace |

I am stiff and sore every morning. I have my stroke limp untill I have been up for at least an hour. and some days I just have a migrane that makes me nauses (sp?)/throw-up-ie so I don't want to get out of bed. then there are days when I am just fine. Also on those bad mornings I am just pooped for the rest of the day. My neuro says it is form the stroke. I guess it is something I have to get used to. I hope your mornings get better.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Becky, I have my TIA-like (since I never had a stroke) symptoms for one to three hours a morning. And sometimes it just depends on the day. I know I don't get enough sleep, which is a major factor, but either way, getting up is a chore no matter what time of day...just more so early. Like I said in a previous post, people would complain of how slow I am in the morning.
And mg... thanks. As an adult I'm still frustrated. I am also a quiet person, so when I do speak up it still seems like it's not being heard. My doctors aren't the best... Hunger?? That's good to know. Whenever I get hungry I feel the symptoms and headache coming. I completely phase out and feel really lethargic and dead as well. My arm/legs go weak and everyone would say hypoglycemia and my blood sugar was too low. Maybe that is still the case because of how drastic things get when hungry, but the MM seems to contribute. Thank you again |
