Hi Mike,
I cringed when I heard Robert's surgery dates today, as I know it was pretty short notice. Hope you guys do well over the next week as you piece together the logistics. We're ready for you though, and can't wait to meet you all! Below is a link to the forecast for the next 10 days. The website I use is www.weather.com, and you just plug in the zip code (Stanford's is 94305) to pull up present stats and predictions. You'll see that our weather is mild - this is actually a beautiful time of year here. Many people are still wearing short sleeves during the days, with sweaters or light jackets in the evenings. In other words, layers, but you won't need anything really heavy! Hope this helps, and here's the link: http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/94305?from=36hr_topnav_undeclared Good luck with your planning . . . I know we'll be talking soon! [smiley=hug.gif] Jill |

My husband and I just returned on Wed from Stanford (6 mo checkup), it was beautiful! It was warmer in Stanford than Oceanside! I'd pack for warm weather days to cool weather in the eves. I don't what your arrangements are, but you should contact Michael Thomas (Social Svcs at Stanford). He can assist you with your accomidations. We stayed at the Sky Ranch Inn for about $20-30 cheaper than other places. Give him a call @ 650-725-4051. Good luck with the surgery, I'll be thinking of your family. Blessings, Lee

Mike:
Jill and Lee are on the money in their descriptions re: weather. I am a Stanford moya moya patient and will be in San Francisco from the 23rd to the 27th and hope to meet you and Robert at that time. I'll definitely be at the hospital on the 23rd so PM me if you think you'll be available. I'll be meeting with Jill also so she'll also know my availability and whereabouts for the most part. Hugs, Trina |

Hi Mike,
My brother Kevin (Cubbie) is a Stanford MM patient. I have been following your posts about Robert and went to the website to read his story. Just want to let you know that you and Robert are in our thoughts and prayers and we want to know how Robert is doing. Please keep us posted. There are computers in the hospital you can use to keep us updated. We were at Stanford in May and the weather was fantastic. It was 50's at night and 70's during the day. Hope you have the same perfect weather. Robert is in excellent hands at Stanford. The entire Stanford MM team is AWESOME! Hugs, Lore |

wow, things are sure moving quickly! Next thing you will have it all behind you and it will be an afterthought!
Do say hello to all the gang for me....and also Trina as she is a'traveling to sunny Cal..... (Trina....I am jealous...can I come too? ) : ) Michael Thomas can help you with the on-campus apartments if there is availability also! I really enjoyed the Creekside Hotel....it is privately owned and operated with pride....(if you speak to the sales manager) they will work seriously on the price for you if you tell them you are an extended stay customer and going to Stanford for a surgery. If you need more info..just PM me or email me. Robert will be in our thoughts.....diane : ) |

oh yeah...there are two common computers in the third floor waiting area.....you can access the internet there.
(The 2nd floor no longer has comp's) I was told there is one in the cafeteria as well. A word of advise though......do remember to log out of any websites you visit as it IS COMMON USE! I went on the MM website on those computers and mine was still logged in to "KatJim" who had been there 3 weeks earlier! I logged him out....and was laughing. The best thing about Stanford is, it is very user friendly....almost everything is in the main bldg..very accessable....you won't have to shuttle all over the campus for your appointments or tests. If you are renting a car....you can purchase a reduced weekly parking pass with unlimited use....for a reasonable price (under $30) from the security dept on the first floor (or bsmt..I forgot) And of course....enjoy eating all the great tastes of San Fransisco! ok.... with all due respect, although i dont do it around Robert I am a smoker..........Creekside is a non smoking place.........as is (if i remember correctly) all the bars and restaurants...........I think I have found where we will be staying (barring negative feedback) we got a hell of a rate (59.00 a night) from Pacific Hotel in Mountain Veiw thats for a dbl queen, kitchennette with in room jaquizzi(needed for my neck and back) cont brfst and dinner........all I need to know is if the area is safe. As far as Robert surgeries.....I am sure all will be fine.......we have the best on it.......what more can anyone ask

Oops.....sorry .....I didn't mean to push a smoke free hotel on you! My aunt stayed with me for a week and she just went out on the balcony to smoke.
But......it seems the rate you have for your hotel beats anything around the stanford area hands down!!! I believe Mountain View is considered a pretty nice area.....my sister lived there for 5 yrs while working for Sun Microsystems. It is just a bit longer commute.....but hey...you won't mind a few minutes more with that great hotel rate! Is that the Pacific Hotel Lodge on El Camino Real Rd? because the El Camino Real strip (of course runs for miles) but is a direct shot to Stanford Hospital....(maybe only 20-25 minutes max) and where you will find endless restaurants and hotels. I mapped it and it is only a few blocks down from the San Antonio shopping ctr and that was still a decent area. (but best to hear from a local of course) Enjoy your stay.....and most importantly.....have smooth surgeries and a speedy recovery for Robert. (Will he be doing both sides?) diane |

Mike,
Robert and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. My daughter just had her surgery last month in Memphis,TN and I must say,I was really shocked at how quickly she recovered.Kids are so resilient.I tried to get her to Stanford but couldn't because of her insurance.Good luck.I wish Robert all the best and a fast recovery. Please let us know as soon as you can how he is doing.
