Title: "headache" virus
Post by twinsmom on Nov 13th, 2006 at 3:50pm
Hi, all!!  [smiley=wave.gif]

Just thought I'd share our weekend experience, in case it might prevent anyone from the stress we just had!

Apparently there is some kind of virus going around that involves a terrible headache that lasts for days, causing some vision problems, fainting, etc - with symptoms looking very similar to those you'd have if you had a BRAIN TUMOR!!

Well, imagine what your (or your child's, in our case) neurologist will say when you call him and tell him your child has these symptoms????????  Our daughter Kate just got over this virus, but before she did, on the strict instructions of both her neurologist and neurosurgeon, we rushed to the ER, waited 7 HOURS for a CT scan, to find out that all was well, and it's just a virus.

It's gone now, and she's back to her chipper, chatty self - BUT I'M NOT SURE I AM YET!! [smiley=gocrazy.gif] [smiley=me&mb.gif] [smiley=eek5.gif]

While I'm very grateful to know that her brain looks good, and that her doctors are so darn attentive, can I just say ladies, THIS IS WHY I MUST DYE MY HAIR!!!!! [smiley=bag.gif]

Anyway, I just thought I'd share, so in case you or your child starts complaining of a headache that nothing seems to help, and it goes on for several days - while our natural instinct is to immediately thinks it's something to do with MM - don't worry yet, it might just be this.  Certainly call the doctor, but don't panic until you have something to panic about!! (It's become my new theme!!) :P

Hugs to all!! [smiley=hug.gif] [smiley=hug.gif] [smiley=hug.gif] [smiley=hug.gif] [smiley=hug.gif]

Kristen, OMG I know I would have been frantic.I'm so sorry you guys had to go through this. What a scary time it must ahve been. It's wonderful though, that your doc's are so proactive and get to the bottom of it.I have a feeling this year is going to be a tough winter for colds flu and such.I Had a misserable cold all weekend,I haven't had one this bad in quite a few years.I just hope that kathleen doesn't get it.She doesn't get sick very often but when she does it rally knocks her out.I hope the rest of your family stays healthy. BIG HUGS to you,and thanks for the warning.

Kristen,

Sorry you had to go through all that but thanks for letting everyone know. I actually had a headache for almost a week and I bet that it was probably that virus. I thought that it was just the weather changing back and forth here in Georgia but it makes more sense now.

I am glad Kate is feeling better!

Kristen,

It's funny (orrysay, not funny, weird) how your daughter just went through what I've been through.  I am on my 2nd week of antibiotics.  I had an inner ear infection (my first in my life).  My symptoms were similar to having an ice pick banging on your head.  My headaches are just now starting to subside after 2 weeks of headaches.  Yuck!  I'm glad to hear I'm not alone!  Take care, Lee

Just days after I read this,I got the worse cold I've had in many years(could have been a flu I guess) Usually I can catch it and take my Zinc and that helps, but this came on so fast I didn't ahve time.It started with a sore throat, then my ear hurt, then the cold cough and stuffy nose and aches. The cough was so bad a I took some cough suppresent(which I never take).I'm not sure if this was it but I think it's the culprit that gave me the worse headaches I've ever had( I don't have moyamoya my daughter does) I never get headaches very bad but this actually made me vomit it was so bad.It happened everynight when I took the medacine. It happened just once before when I took a cough suppresant( I had forgotten about it that's how long ago it was).I can't be possitive this was the cause, but the night I stopped taking it I had no headache.....It may be jsut MY reaction to the drug that they use as the cough suppresant ,but I thought it was worth mentioning since so many here are prone to headaches.
