Title: Paige to have surgery again Post by jnokes on Dec 7th, 2006 at 9:03pm
We are at St.Jude early because Paige's doctor was concerned about her condition progressing.Since her stroke on November 22,she has had 2 TIAs in the past week. She was scheduled to have her yearly post radiation check up later this month but everything was moved up due to the progression of MM on the right side of her brain.I spoke with Dr.Boop today and he wants to do both the direct bypass and indirect bypass(possibly EDAS)sometime before Christmas. He said that her condition has gotten significantly worse and he is worried that she could have another stroke.Has anyone else had to undergo both surgeries on the same side?I thought I had read about it before but couldn't find it again. Please keep Paige in your thoughts and prayers.Thank you all and I will post an update as soon as I find out more.

Jennifer,I'm so sorry to hear your daughter will be facing surgery again. It's good that your Dr.'s have moved things along quickly though.I don't have any experience with having both surgeries, but we will definatly keep Paige in our prayers.Praying for a uncomplicated surgery and speedy recovery. Please keep us posted.

Jennifer:
I believe I know of a patient who's had both indirect and direct on one side in one surgery, and they've been doing great so far. I think it's good that your doctor is moving things up -- I'll thinking of you all. Hugs, Trina |

Jennifer -
So sorry to hear that Paige needs another surgery...but sounds like you have a good doctor there in that he is being proactive and not reactive! Good for you and Paige and Dr. Boop! Paige will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers! -Shari |

I want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Paige and our family.Today, while Paige was having her pyschological testing(routine for her post radiation follow ups),she had another TIA.This past Saturday and Wednesday, she had one but it only affected the left side of her mouth(droopy)and nothing else.Today, for about 10 minutes(maybe not that long but it sure felt like it) she lost use of her left arm.Thankfully,we were at the hospital and other doctors and nurses witnessed it first hand.Dr.Boop was called in(he works at 5 different hospitals) and her radiation oncologist was on hand to examine her as well as a neurologist. She also had an EEG so the doctors could positively rule out seizures although they were already pretty sure.During her EEG,all the doctors met to discuss surgery and Dr.Boop decided to do the surgery Thursday(the 14th).Although,I didn't get a chance to speak with him directly,I am expecting him togo ahead with both the direct and indirect bypasses on the right side.As you all have already mentioned, thank God for Dr.Boop in that he is reacting to this quickly. Please keep Paige and the surgeons(Boop and Watridge)in your thoughts and prayers and her father and I as well that we will stay strong for her during all of this.Thank you and I will post updates when I find out more for sure.
