I went to my nurosurgeon yesterday. He wants me to have ECIC by-pass. What does it stand for and has any one had it before?

Hi Amber,

EC-IC is extracranial to intracranial bypass. This is the surgical procedure (craniotomy) performed on MM patients to increase the cerebral blood flow. You either have direct or indirect bypasses or both depending on your individual circumstances.

EC-IC is very much like heart bypass surgery - blocked arteries are bypassed only it involves the brain when it is as a result of the ill effects of MM disease.
