Gaining weight. I have gained a lot, too. It's annoying, but any challenging exercise makes me really sick. I run and then get sick and lose feeling in my arms and face and then I bike. Try biking. Try little exercises and build up. Some weights, but not a lot just to build extra strength.

Hi Robb
Everyone is different so you will have to be under your doctor's guidance on this one. My specialists have told me do not hyperventilate under any circumstance so I bear this in mind but I am probably an extreme case as I go to the gym everyday for at least 2 hours - push weights, do cardio etc I do 3 spinning classes a week, a couple of pump classes and step too, I do personal training, am training to be a pole dancing teacher and am at this moment doing an intermediate level which consists of backward dips and climbing up a pole!! I am also considering doing a personal training certificate as well so I can teach at the gym. I luckily have never experienced weight problems would not like to have to deal with having any as I have always been trim so I am focused to keep fit. But as I said I am definately not the norm with this - but on saying that I do listen very carefully to my body and keep well hydrated. Also in my circumstance excercising makes me feel really great as I don't have the lack of energy that is apparent on this site and it doesn't make me feel sick either. Hi,
I was scared to exercise, too, so I took a month off after my surgery then eased my way back into exercise by walking. First and foremost you should seek the advice of your doctor because everyone's situation is different. Your doctor knows what's best for you. Yes, also listen to your body and don't push yourself. Personally, I was determined to run a 5K to prove to myself I was "OK." I trained by doing step and cardio kickboxing classes. With the support of my husband running with me (or I should say very far behind me -- I like to tease him about that), I finished a 5K within 6 months of my surgery. These days I play tennis a couple of days a week and try to do a step and/or cardio kickboxing class during the week. For me, I feel better when my blood is pumping, but everyone is different. I hope you find an exercise plan that is healthy for you and helps you to feel great. Stephanie |

yup everyone is totally different, for me i'm totally blessed because i compete on a national and international level for powerlifting. but right now i'm lifting bout 60% because i'm scheduled to do surgery at the end of the month. but i'm doing lots more cardio and core work along with wts.
so all depends on how u feel and start slow. you'll know if you can't and don't just ignore the signs. have fun and smile::: |

Everyone is diffrent so lestion to YOUR BODY! I started out with something with minimal impact then worked my way up. If I felt like I was going to throw up I stoped and let my self relax. If I felt like I was going to hyperventilate I would stop and relax. Even during "special" activites with my husband. We take a break if I get over excited. Take you time and lestion to your body it should tell you when you need to slow down and/or stop.

What kind of weight gain have folks experienced? (if it's not too personal a question!)
My fiancee has been gaining weight steadily at about 5lbs a week pretty much since the stroke that lead to her diagnosis. Her neurologist seems convinced that there's something endocrin going on (there are other hormonal symtoms too) and has given us vague hints that there are some instances "in the literature" of MM going hand in hand with endocrin problems. So far the (many!) endocrinologists we have seen have not been able to find out what's going on, but I'm intrigued to know other people's experience ted |

Hiya Robb,
As others have said, speak to your surgeon. Personally, prior to surgery I was working out 6 days a week--cardio and weights. I was begging to go back within 2 weeks of my first surgery (back in April) and my surgeon said OK, just to monitor myself. I alternate spin, yoga, eliptical, stair stepper and weights. I bought a heart rate monitor and that has been the best thing--I don't let myself get over 180 bpm (my personal heart rate peak according to my trainer). If it means me sitting there while everyone else is "on a hill" in spin, that's what it means. I recovered from surgery like I never expected, and I feel it was largely due to my body's good health---I don't intend to let that go. Do what you can and monitor yourself--the simple fact is our doctors are not there in the gym with us and we only know when we're going too far. You know your body, your limits, etc., so get back in there and enjoy it! I just had my second surgery and get to go back to it all on Monday (June 4th) and am so excited! I wish you the best, and if you've gain a few pounds, who cares---you're alive! God Bless! |
