hey there.. what surgery did you have? indirect or direct bypass?
either way what you are saying is true... for some cases just one bypass introduces enough blood flow into the brain, that another surgery isn't necessary.. basically the bloodflow will probably be monitored over a few months and then the decision made... no one can really predict your chances though of this happening.. just have to wait and see i guess.. focus your energies on getting that bloodflow happen and see what is deemed necessary as time goes on... you've done it once though, you can do it again if necessary! |

well, my story is unique I was diagnosed on May 26, 2005 and had my first surgery on my right side here in TN. My neurosurgeon did a synangiosis on my carotid artery on my right side. I always thought that I would have surgery only once because I had the disease on one side only. It was blocked 60% when I was diagnosed.
Well, my symptoms started to come back with the headaches and the numbness. The neurosurgeon did the arteriogram and it was progressing to his knowledge. But my parents were not satisfied because my neurosurgeon thought that my left side was starting to be blocked. So I gathered all my test results and sent then to Dr. Steinberg for a second opinion. Two months later his nurse calls me back and says that the revasulation that I had done on July 18, 2005 did not take. I didn't have much time and I need to be in California the next month. So we flew to california and I was so scared that I was going to have two more surgeries when I got there. I had my second surgery on my right side on March 15, 2006. I was in the hospital till April 6, 2006. I had complications. So you see you can have only two surgeries on each side depending on the procedure. My second surgery was EDMS. It will be a year since my second surgery next week and I am doing great!! Hang in there and have faith everything will be great. Just visualize yourself healthy and doing all the things you want to do. Your body needs time to heal. I hope this helps you, yassi |
