I am sorry she had indirect revascularization on the left side. The bone they removed was the bone window where they connected the temporal artery to the brain. It is a 3'by3' square that now sinks in on her skull. I can see from the responses she is the only one this has happened to. so opinions would also be great!! :-/

I have one 2 inch round missing skull peice. I had an STA-MCA bypass and the musscel on the brain thing. They were able to use the same hole. It will be scencitive and should be. I just can't do any sports without a helmet that I feel could cause injury to my "soft spot". My sugery was almost three years now and I still have sencitivity problems.
I hope this helps. Becky |

I just be very careful about it, my 2 hole is in both side of my head slightly above the ears, the bypass blood velse just lay beneath of skin of infront both ears, so my neurosurgeon told me I can't sleep on either side of my head( it is hard since I'm side sleeper) and no tight hat or banda either(the rest of my life), he just doesn't want me to crust those blood velse [smiley=laugh.gif]. If you have hole on both side, put your finger on one side, tap finger on the other side you will feel it popping :-/(it very entertaining) ::).
It just a small price to pay to be alive :D Kieu |

I have a question about not being able to sleeping on our operated side(s). Did your neurosurgeon mean we cannot (or better not) sleep on our sides for the rest of our lives?? Actually my neurosurgeon did not tell or warn me about anything like this. And then when it had been four months post op I started to sometimes use my operated side to sleep (but just for a short period everytime), and that was not long before the aching and stressful feelings started to bother me... I've always been wondering if they have anything to do with each other... [smiley=huh.gif] My neurosurgeon tells me so little about everything... :'( Ben |

My nero didn't say anything eather. He just said if it bothers me then don't sleep on that side. I don't know if it would be the same if I had a surgey on both sides. I say if it bothers you when you do it Don't Do it! But always ask you nerologest first.

Yes, my neurosurgeon told me very clearly that don't sleep on either side of my head or wear any tight hats or banda the rest of my life, he even told me that get soft pillows to lay on just incase :-/ and he said I will know it if I accident lay on it. (couple time I lay on while I sleep I did get stroke like symtom on the other side on my arm & leg)
