Title: Latest angio results. Post by tomg on Apr 27th, 2007 at 12:47pm
[smiley=wave.gif] Hi all, I honestly don't know who knows me anymore. It's been a long time since my last post and thankfully the site has grown to huge proportions but I thought I'd fill you in on my most receint test results.
I had an angiogram last monday april 15th in Newyork Presbyterian Hospital. The results were great! [smiley=sayyes.gif] Dr. Connolly called and said that the temporal artery placed on the surface of my brain looked great and was growing collaterals, though not a whole lot because my blood flow was good to begin with. He also said that My MCA( moyamoya people know that that means middle cerebral artery was very stable and that in the 21/2 years since my last angiogram, my moyamoya shows absolutely no signs of progressing. More good news is that a small anyerism that I had was now gone ;;D Now here's something to think about, after all those of you who remember me, know that what would a post from me be without a controversial statement. ::) Dr. Connolly told me 4 years ago that there is no evidence or studies done That shows moyamoya to be progressive once surgery is done. It is progressive if it is ignored and left untreated. Well, there's my good news and I hope that you are all well. Take care, Tom G. 8) |

Hi, TomG... I remember you! I haven't posted in awhile, either :-[ Thanks for the update on your angiogram. That is GREAT news ;;D
Wouldn't it be great if surgery halted moyamoya progression? I know it definitely helps. Here's something wierd: we've learned from a recent perfusion study that Daphne's right MCA opened back up, after surgery, and is now perfusing the right side of her brain! She had severe enough moyamoya to have suffered strokes on *both* sides of her brain. Not sure why it happened, but after a very grim prognosis, Daphne seems to be thriving two years post MM surgery. Jenny (mom to Daphne -- now 3.5 years old, suffered strokes at 13 months old, and underwent bilateral EDAS surgeries at 15 months old. Also Diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis www.daphnestory.com) |

Tom,
As I mentioned on the phone last week....this is great news. Congratualtions! Bravo! Cheers! Olga and I had a great time at dinner on the 14th. It truly was a pleasure meeting Debbie...great food...great conversation..great time....even in the middle of the wost rain in years .Seeing that we are only a little over an hour away, we need to make this a more frequent event I also agree, a Pinceton reunion this summer would be great. Congrats again Greg |

Hey, Tom.good to hear from you esp'ly with such great news!!
I was always under the impression that MM never stopped, that the new collaterals just took over, so this is great to hear! Wouldn't it be great to confirm that the surgery stopped the progression?!? keep in touch! sue |
