Title: Common Medication Post by pasnblu on May 3rd, 2007 at 12:49pm
Hi all:
Curious to find out about medications short term and long term. I was on Coumadin and Lipitor right after my TIA in March, then upon diagnosis of MM at UCLA, immediately removed from Coumadin and Lipitor was increased from 10mg to 80 mg. AS well as one baby aspirin per day. My hope is if I am a candidate for surgery, my post op med will only be the aspirin. Any insight from the more experienced MMers? |

When I had my stroke I was on Coumidan. I was getting a 3 month angiogram so I had to go off of it. They still wanted me on something since my first diagnosis was a clot not MM. I don't like needles so I was put on plavix, and 325mg Asprin. After about six months, I went to the MAYO clinic I was told I had MM and to go off everything so they could do the surgery. Now 3 years later I am only on a baby(25mg) asprin.
Good luck with your surgey. Now that they have properly diagnosed the MM you should be getting the care you need. Make sure you have a doctor that Knows MM as well. Becky |

Thank you for the information Becky. I am currently in a holding pattern until my Medical Group approves further tests, but your information is hopeful and helpful.

I was put on an aspirin regiment. Unfortunately we found out that the aspirin thin my blood too much and caused me to bruise pretty much instantaneously. They change it so I'm on baby aspirin the bruising stopped after I started on the baby aspirin. I was also put on Lipitor, but it caused me to have a dull nagging headaches. Once they change my presription to Zetia, I've stopped having the headaches. I may sound like a hypochondriac, but headaches scare me silly now, especially when the don't go away. The only time I usually get headaches are that time of the month (sorry guys :P [smiley=blush.gif]) I know it's a girl thing. Of course I presume some of you girls have worst syptoms than I do. My tell tale sign is a nagging headache and achy back the week before, then it goes away like nothing. Sorry, didn't mean to gross you "guys" out!!
