Title: Blue spots in visual field?
Post by Roz on May 11th, 2007 at 1:28pm
As a Moya Moya patient, I have been having some new visual issues for several months. I have episodes whereby when I move my head whilst I'm laying down or trying to get up, I see lots of blue spots. Sometimes, I'll have a grey out when getting up then see the blue spots and other times, I'll just see the blue spots. As well as this, I also see very bright, random stars or blue stars, during the rest of the day. I have now been told that my grey outs (when accompanied by weakness) are Heamodynamic TIAs. I have also been told that these blue spots may be a result slow blood flow to the back of the brain. I've had bilateral indirect procedures done so am wondering if anyone else has had these blue spots issues following surgery and if so, what can be done about it, if anything needs to be done at all. An opthalmologist has ruled out any eye issues. My BP has been monitored and whilst the readings seemed a little low to me, it didn't seem to cause much concern. I am currently awaiting further news from my specialist. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I've had something similar - not sure if it's the same thing.  I was told it was optic migranes...anyway, I describe it as...it's as if you looked at the sun or someone took your picture you still see the spots remain for a little while.  I have never been able to pin down a pattern for when I get them.  My eye doc does a visual fields test to look for any damage to the nerves - but hasn't seemed to be worried about them.  I dont know if there's anything to be done.  (I've had both surgeries - Indirect).

Thanks for your reply, Shari.

This is reassuring for me. I've had the typical type migraine with the zig zag patches and patches of blurred vision but not with the blue spots. The blue spots 'twinkle' like stars for a couple of seconds. I've also had big blue patterns and general patterns completely take over my whole vision when I've been laying down. This is what prompted me to call my specialist as I had one episode where the patterns completley took over my vision for about five minutes, which was accompanied by a really bad headache. Then when I went to switch on the light to get some painkillers, my eyeballs felt like they were burning. I have an appointment in July so will wait and see what my specialist says then.

Thanks again for your reply.
