Title: Do you know the way to San Jose? Post by pasnblu on Jul 6th, 2007 at 1:26pm
Hi All:
So maybe not San Jose, but close enough. I am heading up on the 15th to Stanford for my 2 week vacation (Mom will be with me, but she won't get the same amenities I do). The brochure says it is all inclusive....room, board, 3 squares a day (some liquid) and a free haircut - twice. If anyone else will be out there the 16th -31st, let me know. Oh - I hear they don't offer a AAA discount!!! :P Cheers Sandi |

Hi Sandi,
Now I can’t get that song by Dionne Warick outta my head. I’m giving away my age, but love it! Anyway… that’s some vacation you’re going on, but I gotta tell ya, if I ever had to take the trip that you are, there’s no where on earth I’d rather be. They’re the best!! You’ll be in great hands and I think you’ll just adore all of ‘em. I’m so tickled your Mom is gonna be there with ya. Those of us that can’t be there in person will be there with ya in spirit every step of the way. Please keep us posted and know you’ll have all our thoughts and prayers. [smiley=hug.gif] Mar |

Awwww . . . such a great song . . . I'm dating myself, too, but always loved it!!!
Sandi, you crack me up! I'm sorry I missed you when you were here a few weeks ago, and can't wait to meet and serve you while you're with us enjoying the lovely amenities. Seriously, you have a wonderful sense of humor (I'd heard from others that you did) and that will definitely help you along the way. In the meantime, I'll see what I can do about the AAA discount . . . no promises, though! See you soon, [smiley=heart.gif] Jill |

Hi. I'm Linda A. and will be having angiogram and CT scan at Stanford on July 23rd. Annual check up. I won't be admitted to to the same luxury digs that you'll have (been there done that -- one side haircut back in 2000!) but will be in the area. Would like to stop by and say HELLO if all it works out. I'll ask Jill where you are and if you want a visitor, a sometimes friendly face, another person (with husband Jack) whose living in moyamoya land. I remember what an intense time this all is. All my best to you, Linda (post name is LA) From Kneeland, Ca -- in the Eurekaarea |

Hi Sandi,
I do know the way to San Jose. LOL! Love that song too! I'm not telling my age. LOL! My brother Kevin (Cubbie) had surgery at Stanford in 2005. He had two STA-MCA bypasses by Dr. Steinberg and Kevin is doing very well. We went back to Stanford a year ago just to visit and see all our friends we met while there in 2005. Well....not exactly......Kevin did go through testing while at Stanford for his yearly check up but we enjoyed our time there with all the staff and other MM friends and family we met there. The Hotel Stanford (Medical Center and Hospital) is a lovely facility with awesome docs and staff and there is an outdoor garden terrace that is just beautiful where you can sit and relax and take in the sun and greenery. There is a nice gift shop and believe it or not, the cafeteria food isn't bad. I really got into the make-your-own salad thing. One of the many first rate Stanford Hotel amenities is the concierge service by Jill. She will take care of you and your mom. She is a great resource and comfort to any MM family coming to Stanford for treatment. She is an angel. No AAA discount?! Must have something to do with their popularity and waiting list? LOL! Once you are up and about, you may find the nearby restaurants with many different types of cuisine and the Stanford Shopping Mall very enjoyable. Very cute post. Attitude is everything. Laughter sets the spirit free! Keep your sense of humor and you will do fine. Would love to meet you but I won't be at Stanford when you are there but perhaps we will meet at a future MM reunion. Hang in there.....ask any questions and know you and your mom are in our thoughts. Be sure and keep us posted on your stay at the lovely Hotel Stanford (Medical Center and Hospital) LOL! Hugs, Lore |

Thanks everyone for the replies and the support. It means a lot to me and I promise to send a virtual postcard while I am there.
I have asked Joli to put in a request with Dr Steinberg, that if the opportunity presents itself, if he could have a go at the part of my brain that craves Mac and Cheese and really bad relationships ;-)....but I don't think that was one of the approved SPA treatments. Linda and Jack - please feel free to stop by. I am sure Mom would love the company. Jill - Missed seeing you too when I was there. But for sure will see you plenty, you'll be ready to boot me out! Thanks again all! Hugs Sandi |

Sandi~
We'll ceck in on you and your mom, if things go well with my testing. Definatly will be thinking of you. On the MUST SEE list, the fountain in front ot your AAA digs is pretty cool! I grew up in Palo Alto and, as a teenage, used to walk over and wade in it on hot days! The Palo Alto Baylands is interesting. Can sit by the Bay and birdwatch, see the Duck Pond, the visitor center. Jack and I hung out there after my surgery until the hotel got it's act together (only a singlle 'A' rating!). There's a small creek that runs between Stanford and Menlo Park. It became a path for at least one cougar to make it's way into the middle of a residential area in Palo Alto about 4 years ago. Amazing. So you'll be 'walking on the wild side' but will be in good hands with Steinberg and crew. Thoughts of a good visit with Dr. Steinberg . Love to you, Linda (LA) |

"I've been away so long.....I may get lost and lose my way"
Yep....been there done that.....it was 10 months ago....had my surgeries Aug 25 & 29 (2006) at Stanford. Had the most fun having brain surgery! Wouldn't have been the same anywhere else! And YOU certainly seem like the type to bring some extra spirit to the place! You have a great approach and the right attitude. Hang in there....you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know how everything goes! Hugs to you and your Mom....Diane : ) |

Sandi,
Great post [smiley=laugh.gif]. I know you will do great! It has been nearly two months since my SPA vacation. And I am 100% plus. Jill and Teresa are both great and the nurses there, ALL of them, are just fantastic. Say hello to JoAnn for me, she's the one that will follow you around and give you a great head massage EVERY MORNING (ultra sound test). She is delightful and will love your sense of humor ::). I've emailed with your Mom a few times, since I live in Florida too. Take care, and if you have concerns or just questions just ask. Carol Mae (spacelawyr@aol.com) |

Hi all:
Mom and I are off. Thanks for all of the encouraging emails. I look at this whole thing as material for my second career as a stand up comic - Just kidding ;-) Spent some time yesterday with a Stanford Spa guest who was treated in March and she provided me with so much insight as to what to expect. I really appreciated the time and the discussion. Mom and I will keep in touch....hopefully with the meds the posts will be even more humorous....or delusional! :P |

Sandi and Mom~
Hope everything goes well with your 'vacation'. The Stanford crew is wonderful. You're in good hands. Glad you got to meet another mm'er. That always helps. Next year you'll be the guide for someone else! Hope to touch down with you both next week sometime. We'll be in Bay Area for awhile after my tests on the 23rd. Huge HUGS to you both, Linda A. (LA) Husband Jack B sends love too. |

This is Alice's mother. She is 5 yrs old Korean American and had 1st right side surgery in Korea. We are trying to contact special doctor for Moyamoya disease in USA. We are staying in Korea because of 1st surgery. The schedule for 2nd surgery is 8/7/07 in Korea and we decided that if we could find the hospital who is well known of MOYAMOYA then we would like to do in our hometown, in CA.
1) What documents do you need and precedure? 2) medical insurance I read the some of you already had experience with Stanford. What way we could do this precedure fast? Here is Alice's medical information: 1) 1st diagonis with 10/2006 , when she had stressed out, she told me she can't raise her own hand like no power //hand and leg. Like exhausted. 2) In 1/2007, 1st seizure, Alice/// We went to family doctor. It took 5 months to get the test done ( CT scann, EEG, MRI) unbelievable !! :-[ 3) in 6/22/07 came to Korea because of delay on every precedure in USA and found out about MOYAMOYA, 6/28/07 1st surgery (EDAS). Please help us ... Thank you very much. |
