Title: Will Carotid Artery Open After EDAS??? Post by SweetEmily on Jul 19th, 2007 at 10:42am
Last week my daughter had her brain angiogram. She had an EDAS in June of 2006. Last week on the angio it now shows her left carotid artery is now completely opened up. Last year before her surgery it was constricted over 90% in three areas. Could the EDAS have opened it up?
Thanks. |

My daughter had EDAS procedures in March, 2005, and the same thing happened. Her right ICA, which had previously been occluded (so much so that she'd suffered two strokes - one in each hemisphere), had opened back up, and now was providing blood to the brain. Dr. Steinberg said he'd never seen that happen before.
I don't know how the EDAS could open it, but who knows? I guess I'm just grateful Daphne's blood flow is so much better than it used to be. |

Wow I have never heard of this before?? I know in the past they have tried to use stents to open up occluded arteries and the results have been disastrous, as usually the walls of the occluded artery become brittle and once narrowed do not have the flexibility to dilate again.
this is very interesting.... perhaps it is a different strain of MM? perhaps it depends on the age of the patient?? interesting! |

maybe it can vary because of age, i too had edas this year so i'll need to wait for a while to see what changes has occurred. i'm 33 so maybe age may have something to do with it for the younger children. wow has anyone else has have the results??

I would lean towards age being the major factor....and of course a blessing to be thankful for!
Children regenerate and recover remarkably well while growing. IE: they heal from broken bones in record time and with much better results than the adults. Let's hope it is a trend that some of our little folks might benefit from! Although, I highly doubt any of us adults will ever document such findings. Smiles....and congrats....Diane : ) |
