Title: Surgery Tomorrow(9/14) Post by ds-mm on Sep 13th, 2007 at 8:29am
My 10 year old daughter Shelby, who happens to have Down Syndrome, will undergo surgery on the right side tomorrow at Arkansas Childrens Hospital in Little Rock. She will have to have surgery on the left side in a few months. She had a stroke on the left side on July 20th and was diagnosed with mm on July 24th. This website has been so helpful. She doesnt understand what is going on. I guess in a way that is a good thing. I just wanted everyone to keep her in their prayers.

Surgery went well. It was supposed to be at 9 am but didn't start until 3:30, due to an emergency. She is in PICU and did well thru the night. They just tried to keep her comfortable. But as soon as she heard her Daddy start talking this morning, she started trying to get up and got very aggitated. She was saying that she's sick and that she's hurting. They are saying that she will more than likely be moved to the Neuro floor sometime today and possibly go home in a few days. Just please keep praying for Shelby and especially for us now. I thought I was prepared but I was wrong.

Shelby was released from the hospital on Monday(9/17).
We are home and everything is basically back to normal. The first 48 hours after surgery was very stressful but by Sunday the old, demanding Shelby was back. She will have her 24 stitches taken out sometime next week. Is that the norm? December 5th is when we will find out when they'll do the left side. Thanks for all the comments and prayers. |

Hi Melonie
Happy to hear that Shelby doing OK. Just wanted to wish Shelby and you and your family, many healthy/happy years and no pain. I don't know about "She will have her 24 stitches taken out sometime next week. Is that the norm?". I am sure someone with the knowledge will answer it. Avi. |

Emily was four when she had her EDAS. She had 32 stitches and had hers removed after 16 days. They had to wait a while longer than normal due to severe swelling in her head.
