Post by mandyz94 on Apr 19th, 2008 at 11:33am
Hello I would like to know if any had any liver problems or liver transplant after moyamoya surgery of after strokes.   I did ask about the cirrohsis before.   My sons is 18 months old he had surgery by Dr Scott at 5 months.   His liver is now getting worse he is in the hospital all the time.   We will be talking to a liver transplant team in 2 weeks to see if he is a canidate.   I am a very scared mom and Anyone who can share any info would really help!
Amanda

Hi Amanda.  When I was first diagnosed with moyamoya the following six months my liver function blood tests were all out of whack.  I went on a cholesterol lowering medication and it has been more normal.  I have the blood tests every year since then.   Other than that........
Best of luck to you both!  MMnewtUt/Natalie

i had the same problems as natalie there... my liver function was out of whack for a long time.. but it's never been very good anyway... mine was probably made worse due to prolonged taking of anti-seizure medications. is your son taking any of these?

From my muddled web of memories I seem to remember that MM can affect/attack liver blood vessels in very much the same way MM affects the brain. However, I believe that MM in the liver is even rarer than MM found in the brain.   Good luck and know that many are praying for your family.
