we are despeately trying to take my son to denver i have heard the surgeon there has treated this in several children and they were all sucessfull. did anyone have there surgery at childrens hospital in denver???

Unfortunately there aren’t many doctors around the country with enough MM experience yet, and IMO, the key to success in the approach is finding a neurosurgeon and staff with true MM experience. There are so many important details/factors to consider when treating this rare disease, that’s why a complete list of people involved in the treatment need to be experienced as well to assure a successful outcome. No two cases of MM are alike. I would bet any neurosurgeon is capable of performing the surgery; it’s the gazillion technical factors in the approach where the experience is so important. One bad call from inexperience is all it took in my family’s case, so please keep that in mind when searching for a surgeon to treat this rare disease.

juniorasp_01 - If you are looking for a pediatric nerosurgeon I would consider trying to get your son to Boston to see Dr. Scott. Dr. Scott did my surgeries...He is at Childrens of Boston and is a wonderful surgeon. He is one of the surgeons that has done research on and many, many surgeries on MM patients and is considered one of the few specialists for MM. unfortunately this is too far and my insurance will only cover denver or minnisota.

Have you looked on the boards DJ has set up for information on “Surgeons with Bypass Experience”?

Several members posted about a Dr. Meyer from the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota as having MM experience, incase you haven’t seen it.
