Post by Emily on Jul 18th, 2008 at 8:49am
hi all, i have always assumed that my intense constant tiredness is due to moyamoya, but have never really checked with anyone else about this.

is anyone else on here tired all the time??

i had my surgeries years ago, and am generally in pretty good health, lead quite an active lifestyle, etc... but if i don't get 10-12 hrs sleep a night i am useless and it physically hurts... anyone else get this?

cheers,
emily

My six year old seems tired alot. She had her surgery two years ago when she was four. She actually asks to be put to bed most nights. Sometimes she even falls asleep in the car on the way to daycamp in the morning.

Emily, My daughter's surgeries were 6 yrs ago(she's 11 yrs old now). She gets exhausted so easily still. If she doesn't get 11-12 hours of sleep she's a totally different person. The heat also exhausts her, and hunger. When she gets exhausted she loses her concentration, gets pale and is just very "out of it".She will mix up the order of letters and numbers,ie. she'll say 15 for the number 51,or spell and adn.Her eyes will look like they're not working together. She just got glasses this year to help with eye strain. When she's tired she doesn't nap but takes breaks and has a snack or drink,or just sits by herself and plays.Just that alone down time can help after she's spent the day at school, and sometimes nothing will help and it's just getting by until it's bed time.

Hi Emily,

IMO it sounds like you may have chronic fatique.

I'm not a doctor but there is a condition identified as Chronic Fatique Syndrome (CFS).  I understand it is baffling but also there are some common causes of fatique from anemia, diabetes, depression and sleep apnea to more serious medical conditions.

I believe 8 hours of sleep a day (on average) is considered the "norm" and less than 8 hours, and more than 9 hours, can be harmful.

You mentioned if you don't get the 10 -12 hours of sleep a day it physically hurts and that personally bothers me.  I would feel better knowing you have discussed your fatique and sleep requirement time with your doctor.

Hugs,

Lore
