Hello Everyone,

I have a few questions.  I'm hoping to get some advice.

For those who have children with MoyaMoya.  Do they play sports?  Basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball/baseball, track?

Does anyone have a problem with their eyes?  blurry vision, eye fatigue? dry eyes?

My name is Margaret and my 16 year old daughter has MMD.  She had her first surgery with Dr Steinberg and we are going for her 6 mo followup  in Oct.  She may be having the other side done then.  She also has Down Syndrome, so this may not mean much.  She does do sports, although not team sports.  She loves basketball and volleyball.  She also plays softball.  She came home with no restrictions at all.  She is doing wonderfull.

Would be glad to answer any questions you have if I can.  You'll both be in my prayers.

My daughter, Holly had surgery 4 years ago.  We have been afraid to let her get back into sports, but she is really wanting to get back into playing sports in middle school.  She misses it very much.

My six year old daughter Emily had her surgery two years ago. We were told no contact sports such as soccer and football. We were also told that gymnastics would probably not be a good idea either for her. She is involved in swimming and dance.

I may not be a kid but I was 23 when I had my surgery. I was told no contact sports like soccor, football, and no balls flying at my head so no baseball/ softball. But if I was careful I could do non-copmetive Bascketball and Volleyball.  I figure skated and that was okayed. So I recomend Dance, swimming, figure skating (but there are some risks on that one spinning and falling on ice).

Hi, I have surgeries more than2 yrs ago, and I'm 38 yrs young ;), and recently I play soccer, I got 1 heavy kicking ball into my left side of the head last week, and it is hurt...... bad, I see many different shape of stars and a headache for couple days.  Also another time while running hard my by pass blood velsel suddenly painful and I feel like it going to burst, so I sit down, drank water and rest, about 5 minutes it back to normal.  I just hardhead and still continue to play game, but I listen to myself and pay more attention to the ball, I will hold my head and jumb out of the way if the ball come to my way [smiley=bag.gif].  If a child play soccer and something going on in her/his body, she/he will not know it and it sometime too late when parent find out, that is my 1cent due to my experience.
If your child want to play sports, check with her doctor, swim is best, (I didn't ask my doctor for soccer because I know he will shake his head)

Hi Hillary,
My son is 18years old, was diagnosed when he was 11 and has had 4 bypass surgeries and he plays soccer on his high school soccer team.  This year he is on the varsity team.  His Dr's know he plays on the team, he has been taught that if a ball is coming towards his head, he is to duck.  The Dr's only ask that he wear a special helmet made for soccer, but he hasn't worn one yet.  We decided that for our son, his dream was to be on this team, and with all he has been through, he deserved the chance to try.  The team considers him their good luck charm.

my 3 yr old is having surgery in sept he is currently in gymnastics and i am planning on putting him back in when everything is over with even if he needs to wear a helmet for a while. he loves gymnastics and i don't want to take that away from him.

wyrik has sensitivity to loud noise, bright light, and doesn't like anything on his hands i don't know if this is related to moyamoya but he has hightened sensitivity with his senses.

Hi Alisa, I did have sensitive with bright light and loud noise, but about 6 months after surgeries, it went away, the only thing bother me now is in the roomful of people and everyone speak together(like party) that noise is drive me crazy [smiley=furious.gif].
