Title: how long will my son be out of school

Hi everyone,
My son will be having his surgery soon. I was just wondering how long he will probably be out of school? I understand he will probably be in the hospital for almost a week, then how long of a recovery? He has not had any strokes, etc. His mm was found by a follow up MRI/MRA when his cognitive abilities have been declining in school and complaining of headaches.

i am happy that they found it before he had a stroke. I think He will let you know when he is ready, and fallow the Doctors sugestion. I was 24 when I had my surgery and I was out from Work and School a month and a half. i will pray for a speedy recovery.

Thanks so much for the reply. A month and a half????
I know I will get through it somehow, but he was off of school last year for about 6 weeks due to a hip osteotomy. But at least this time, he will be easier to carry than with a hip spica cast on :).

Linda,

My daughter is 16 and had Down Syndrome. She had her first surgery in April. She returned to school in 2 weeks, if we lived in Ca., she could have returned in 1 week. We had to stay for follow-up so we didn't return home until the second week. She did wonderful. We go back to Stanford next month for her 6 month follow-up and possible surgery on the other side. Your son will be in my prayers.

I had both EDAS, and STA-MCA. I was also 23 when I had mind done. The youger you are the faster you heal. Good luck

Hi Linda,

I was 43 years old when I had my surgeries. I was ready to go back to work after 2 weeks, but Dr. Steinberg told me to wait until the end of the month, well I back at work full-time four weeks after my surgeries. Once I came home to Hawaii (1 wk after surgeries) I was driving the very next day. When I had my stroke prior to surgery, I was not able to go back to work for 3 months.

I pray for a speedy recovery for your son!
