Title: New to Moyamoya
Post by cindytsai on Jan 18th, 2009 at 2:32pm
Hello:
My name is Cindy. My brother just suffered a stroke on the 8th of January and was later diagnosed with Moyamoya.  He is 34 years old and we never saw it coming.  He had suffered from late stage leukemia when he was 3 but has been in remission ever since.  There were no signs that he was suffering from the disease.  He is still in the hospital.  His vital signs are good but is still trying to regain mobility.  He is still not able to talk.  I would appreciate any information I could get on what I should do next.  A lot of the research I have read are on children with Moyamoya.  Is there something different for adults like my brother.  I'm also trying to figure what to do since my parents are in their seventies and I have two children of my own.

Wellcome to the Family,
I had my srtoke when I was 22. I  had a nurologest that didn't even concider MM. I live in MN so when that nurologest could not figure out the true case of my stroke , she sent me to the Mayo clinic where i was diagnosed MM in less then a minuet. I never saw it comming. One day I just had an extreemly bad headace and the next ting I know later that night I had a stroke. There are many adults that show no signes then one day poof. Surgey is the primary if not the only way of helping prevent any more issues. In another section of this site is Surgens with bypass experience. There you can find a local Doctor or the best in the USA is Dr Stinberg's team.
I will pray for you Cindy to have strength, and for your brother to recover. Cindy you will provide you brother with the strenght and suport he will need in his steps to recover be strong. We are here for you both.
Becky
