Title: Question about Stanford Post by Shari K. on Mar 16th, 2009 at 7:56pm
Hi Again! I wrote a few weeks ago about my DH having MM and my wanting him to get a second opinion. I did talk him into it. Stanford confirmed receipt of his images last Monday. How long should it be before we hear back? I hate to keep calling them as I know how busy they must be.
We are in a time crunch for a few reasons. One, if he needs the surgery, I don't have much sick time left to be with him. I am a teacher, and spring break is coming up. I'd love to be able for him to have the surgery when I could actually be there with him as much as possible. Secondly, he was "laid off' this past week. He hasn't worked since Nov. 21, and he did receive a note to go back to work, but suddenly his shop "is really slow" and there is no work for him. (Of course, no one else got laid off.) My DH refuses to persue a wrongful suit against his now former employer. I think he got laid off because of his health...he needs to find another job ASAP, and there actually are a few places around that have jobs listed right now...we just need to find out if he needs more surgery first. Any input you have about the turn around time for a recommendation from Dr. Steinberg would be appreciated. Thanks, Shari |

I wouldn't worry too much about pestering Stanford. Go ahead and give them a call if only to ask them if Dr. Steinberg has seen them yet. The staff at Stanford is amazing and in my experience they are very patient. I remember getting a pretty fast response so if you haven't heard back, give them a call.
Don't forget that it's your DH's health is on the line here and by the sounds of it so is his futire emplyoment. You have to be your own advocate. So yeah, call...just not tomorrow around noon because Dr. Steinberg will be a little busy doing my third surgery ;) Good luck, Jesenia |

Hi Shari,
I too have some films being reviewed. Teresa told me yesterday that there was an emergency surgery on Monday that interrupted the scheduled weekly conference. She said they'll do their best to review films during the week. I usually communicate with Teresa via email, teresab@stanford.edu. Given her tremendous workload, I'm always amazed at how quickly she responds. I hope you hear soon. Jessina, You'll be in my prayers. Kim |

We did hear back from Teresa yesterday. Jim is scheduled for surgery on April 8th. I owe it to you all who responded to an earlier post about amount of blockage. I am quite sure he finally decided to get the second opinion based on what members of this board were writing. Thank you!!!!
