I am sorry I havent posted in a very long time, to say we have been busy would be an understatement  :-[.
Brief background
Brielle aged 4 at the time had her first stroke on the 10th of Sep 09
Second stroke 6 weeks later  :'(.
First op was done on the 13th of Nov 09 unfortunately she had a stoke during that surgery. Direct bypass was performed on the right side of the brain.
Second op 27th of Nov, indirect bypass performed.

We have just been back for the follow up SPECTs it looks like stroke that happened on the 13th of Nov has affected the quality of the bypass and the blood flow is compromised  in the new artery  :'( :'(.
To say we are gutted is an understatement.  I am also terrified as the third artery is also affected and we are looking at surgery in the next few months for that.
Does anyone know if they are likely to want to operate on the right side again.  The left side of her body is so weak already from 3 strokes in the 3 mths.  She walks but cant use her arm at all and her mouth has been severly affected  :'(
I will be making an appointment to see Prof Stoodley (we are in Australia) ASAP but thought I would see if anyone knows the outcomes on here.
Prof Stoodley had already told us that because she is so young he would be very surprised if she made it through childhood without more strokes regardless of the fact that she has had surgery.
Man this disease is nasty, I often wish I could wave a magic wand and make it go away  :'( :'(

Gosh I'm so sorry to hear this.....My daughter had complications after her first surgery. She had 2 strokes before surgery one the day before surgery and one 4 days after her right side surgery. She was like an infant after these strokes. She had indirect surgery in Boston. It took time but she's doing great now. she has not had a stroke in 8 yrs,she was 5 at the time and she's now 13. Our case is not the same as your daughter's but from our experience I have learned that there is hope and children really do heal so well and can recover from the strokes. If I can answer any specific questions let me know. I don't know fo your surgeons but do they have experience with MM? Please know your family is in my prayers.

My daughter also had a stroke during surgery and another 1 week later. She was at Stanford for almost 2 months. She is an adult age 36 and now lives in a Nursing Home for brain injuries. I am raising her children. I hate this disease! She has had a total of 8 strokes but only 1 after both the surgeries. Blood flow is successful but she is living with the devastation of the strokes! How sad! :'(

Briellemum,                                                                                wow i am so sorry to hear this i can almost relate my son was 10mths old when he had his surgery he had a massive stroke during surgery it took along time to recover he had some episodes but to answer your question i too asked Dr Scott what will happen if this surgery doesnt work and he told me there are a chance some patience who may need to have the procedure repeated we have to go to and have test done yearly so far no surgery is needed to be repeated but  like i said he  Dr Scott has told me there are cases it may need to be done my prayers are with you

I am so sorry to hear that this disease has been so bad for some of you  :(, its just so wrong on so many levels.
We have an emergency appointment with Prof Stoodley tomorrow (wednesday). 
I am so stressed ATM that I am being physically sick.  I am hoping that he has some answers be they good or bad I just need to get so many things clear in my head  :-[.
I will come back when we get home (it is an interstate trip for us) and let you all know what he says.

Keep your faith with Brielle, kids are tougher than we think and she will be looking to you for strength and reassurance, as I'm sure you're giving her.

I know every case is different, but not one of the Prof's/Dr's/surgeons on Luca's case (and there have been a few) has ever indicated to us that, because she is so young, she will continue to have strokes after successful surgery.

It might be worth getting a copy of her latest scans to one of the moyamoya specialists listed here for an opinion.

I can't relay in words how I'm feeling for Little Brielle right now, but she will remain in my thoughts.
