Title: Heat Related Issues
Post by fierh on May 6th, 2010 at 1:01pm
Does anybody have any heat related issues due to their mm?  Since my surgeries 14 yrs ago I  do not tolerate heat or being hot at all.  In summer or winter.

I haven't noticed anything, except that I am keenly aware when I'm dehydrated.

My daughter can't tolerate the heat at all either. We have in her IEP for school that she needs air conditioned rooms. She avoids going out in the summer unless we're going swimming. The heat just wipes her out completely. Yersterday she had a state test at school and the room they had her in was way too hot. After 2 hours they called me to come pick her up. I told them they needed to find a cooler room for todays teesting so they did find an air conditioned room. She does not seem to sweat so I believe she has a hard time regulating her temp. She also gets very cold easily her hands and feet get almost purpple when they get even a little cold.

My daughter--age 9 is the same. Before her diagnosis, as a baby, I remember her screaming in the car if she got warm--and we had to fix it immediately. Still today (she's had 2 surgeries fro Moyamoya, right and left(2 strokes--one each after each surgery )heat still drains her and hydration is so important.......and on a hot day, I encourage her to stay in at recess and stay hydrated)
She has a number of sensory issues too--clothing, different food textures, loud noises etc. We've learned to help her manage them through help from an OT and the Sensory Integration resources available.

Thanks, for the replies!  The reason I had posted my question was I was trying to see if I could get a medical excuse to have the ac in my classroom (I teach Kindergarten) turned down.  The county is trying to save money and they have the ac turned to 74 in the summer.  It wouldn't be so bad, but my classroom is on the hot side of the building... I get all the hot afternoon sun.  And it is killing me! :-[

I have the same problem. I got dizzy soon under the sun for only a few minutes and I sweet like hell. :-[
