Title: basilar artery issues with moyamoya Post by sshad10 on Jan 13th, 2011 at 6:12pm
My daughter was diagnosed a year and a half ago with moyamoya and had surgery on the left side a year ago in October. The surgery appears successful and is not needed on the right side, however, at her follow-up angiogram they found that her basilar artery is small in caliber and are referring us to a neurologist specializing in stroke. I don't know what all this means. Is anyone else familiar? Please help us understand. Does it mean she is destined to have a stroke?

Michelle,
I looked up basilar artery issues and I am sure the surgen just wants to make sure things are flowing well so there is no out come of stroke or other issues. Don't stress about this. Think of it a verification that everything is great, done by an expert in the subject. Not to scare you or anyone else, but yes there is the possibility that after the suregery the progression of the MM has a potential to cause a stroke. BUT all of us get check ups regualry so our awsome nurologest should be able to catch any issues before they happen, and fix it! Stay Strong, Becky |

Thanks for responding Becky. I forgot to mention that her neurosurgeon does not feel that she is a candidate for surgery to put a stent in, so I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. So I am completely scared for my little girl and. I am praying to God she will be alright.
