Title: Husband just diagnosed with MM Post by Greekswife on Apr 3rd, 2011 at 11:21am
: : :)))Hi,
My husband is 60 years old and has had a couple of strokes since Feb 7th. He was in the hospital for 5 weeks and the doctor's could not figure out why he kept having strokes. Finally a covering doctor indicated that something was not right and ordered a cerebral angiogram which showed that he had Moyamoya!!! Thank goodness for the covering doctor, or we would still be in the dark. Unfortunately as a result of the strokes, my husband has Global Aphasia and struggling with communicating. It has been a very long frustrating road for us, but we were referred to a wonderful doctor in Tampa who is going to perform the bypass surgery soon. So now we have to get through the surgery, as well as the Aphasia! I am confident that he will get better, but it will take time and patience. I am so glad that I found this website, as it is a great source of information. |

Hi,
I'm sorry you and your family are affected by Moyamoya. I had a couple of small strokes before I was diagnosed at age 54. I had bypass surgeries in 2007. It's truly amazing how the brain is able to heal itself. If you're need a little hope right now, you might ask a friend to bring you a copy of Jill Bolt Taylor's book, "Stroke of Insight". She recovered beautifully from a terrible stroke. I'm praying that your husband has the same success. Best wishes to you all. Kim |

I live here in Tampa too. If you need anything let me know, you can email me at djinkster@aol.com
I've heard good things about Dr. VanLouvern. We ended up going to SHands in Gainesville. Dr. Lewis did Destin's surgery. |

Hi and Welcome,
My brother stroked and had aphasia and lost his abstract thinking ability. He was in his late 40's and now in his 50's. He had trouble communicating at all. After his surgeries, he went through a rehab program to learn to speak and to regain his abstract thinking ability (nothing made any sense to him). He did very well and today, he only struggles with some words. It does take patience but I was amazed at how quickly my brother could speak coherently. Stay strong and positive and keep us posted on your husband. Lore |
