I am 32 years old with bilateral stenosis and had EDAS surgery 9 years ago.  I have been mostly healthy since about a year post-op.  I want to know if anyone has been pregnant post surgery and if there were any complications.  Also what kind of blood thinners were you on?  Thanks

I am glad to hear you are doing so well that pregnancy is in you future. I wish I could share some real life experence but I am not at that stage yet. I was told by my OB that when I do get pregnant that I should have a c-section. My Ob discussed things with my nurologest since he has not ahs any experence with MM. There are many others who have had surgerys and have been able to have natural births. The blood thinner question: I am on 81mg of asprin but I am not sure if I will be taking it when we go to get pregnant ourselves, but that won't be for a few years.

I had an EDAS in October of 2007 after my second stroke (the first was a clot at age 13 and the second a bleed at age 21). I have unilateral MMD on my left side.  I ended up (much to my surprise) pregnant a few weeks later.  My son is now 3 and a beautiful, healthy little boy. I was absolutely terrified through my pregnancy though. My neurologist and OB kept a close eye on me and kept me on all my meds. I also saw a perinatologist (high risk OB doc) and had multiple ultrasounds throughout my pregnancy.  My OB was so scared of me though, being from ND no one has ever seen MM before and he was extra cautious with me meaning I got extra scans and blood work often. 

I was on a 325mg Aspirin a day and verapamil 240mg during pregnancy. My BP ended up dropping a little in my 7th month so they changed me over to 120mg verapamil instead. I had a planned c-section at 38 1/2 weeks with no complications. The anesthesiologist kept my blood pressure under control during the c-sect and my spinal block worked to keep me numb during the procedure. 

I overall had a great pregnancy and ended up with a sweet little guy! My docs couldn't believe that he and I made it so well through the pregnancy (they wanted me to terminate when we first found out because I was so high risk and MMD is so so rare here.) My husband and I have been discussing adding to our family soon and even though the risk is high my neurologist thinks we could successfully do it again.
